picture not clear when movement

Post by anleeb »

I created many DVD's with video studio 8 already and nearly everything went fine.
But now I cant capture a video anymore without a problem.
Every time somebody or something is moving the picture is not clear. specially on stripes you can see it clear, like on stripped umbrellas.
I don't know what's wrong now. I capture from a sony digital video camera.

Is there something wrong on the camera or the program?
Pleaaase help!!!!!!!!!

Sorry for my English!!!!

You have a field order problem -- a forum search for "field order" will give you all the needed information.

Thank you for your answer!!!!!!!

I have tried upper lever, lower level and frame based but the picture is still very bad. Is there something else I could try?

Please post a complete list of your capture properties. (Right click on a captured video clip and select Properties).

Your capture properties look OK, and lower field first is correct for firewire capture from a digital source.
Just a suggestion: if you have the hard drive space, try capturing in DV format. Takes a lot of room, but it's easier on the computer resources on the way in, and it preserves all the information.

Angela,
The only thing that is odd about your capture properties is that your bit rate (9500 kbps) exceeds the maximum that Video Studio allows. Try capturing a short clip to Mpeg2 at 8000 kbps. This might clear up the problem.

Same problem and worse here

Post by debgary465 »

I hope you're monitoring this with your option for email notification of replies to your post Angela.

I've got the same problem but slightly worse, different settings (auto set to same as DV camera by VS8 itself) and VS8 has been giving me the s*@#s since I got it 5 months ago. I'm going to have a really good whinge here because I believe, based on the number of similar posts and problem, that VS8 is a dud program for some of us trying to capture DV using AVI format.

Firstly capturing in MPEG2 works just fine, but I hate having to transcode the darn thing and it's limited to 2,000 frames. pain in the backside and very time consuming.

As for ulead.com.tw emails, I sent 3 requests and never received a reply.

I've only just discovered that my ISP must have them blocked because the instant I used an alternate email domain, bingo I got a response...... You'd think Ulead would amend the situation with an alternate domain for their emails????? I only hope my ISP will consider unblocking them.

I'll be watching to see if anyone comes up with a solution to our/many other users problems. I'll post seperately so I can include settings/details etc.

A couple of points for what its worth,

What are you actually doing with the MPEG-2 files after you have captured them - what is this transcoding your doing and what is limiting it to 2000 frames. Having captured in MPEG-2 why don't you just edit in UVS and then burn to DVD - you don't need to do any more processing.

I know we all blame Ulead for many things - but expecting them to do something because your ISP blocks e-mail to/from them is a bit much, if you think that e-mails are being blocked then you need to talk to YOUR ISP to find out why e-mails to or from a legitimate e-mail address are being blocked.

Hi Brian,

Thank you for inquiring to my post. The transcoding takes place immediately after capture (USV8) of either MPEG1 or 2 and is part of the capture process just prior to USV8 creating the MPEG file ready for editing. It's limited to 2000 frames and is a pain. USV5 doesn't do this.

I've tried various settings to get around it, but alas USV8 keeps doing it.

My ISP is very good and have placed the IP's for Ulead.com.tw into their white list so I and other customers will now receive emails. It was an immediate response, but I suppose it helps to have worked for them and know the system along with the person on the abuse desk........

I feel Ulead, being WELL aware of the problem, are bloody minded in their ignorance. Not many users would understand the fine print at the bottom of the support page, or just what to do about it if they did. Ulead would be far better to accept that a less problematic email would probably suit all customers, but this might have the effect of increasing the number of happy users after they've finally got support. It seems like Ulead aren't working towards this end by continuing to use a flawed support system.

If a business were attempting to sell their products, with a problematic email, they'd miss out on sales. As it is, Ulead have already sold the product (NOTE-not using the problematic email), but continue to use the problematic email for support. It's unconscionable!

This is just one knowledable support persons view and I'm now happier for the telling :D and I hope you're more enlightened after the listening . It's very nice that you attempted to defend their actions.

I've seen your name on several posts and hope that you'll be able to assist me in some way with the AVI problem I have? I've got another post, if you could spare the time it'd be appreciated. All information is very gratefully received. See here: http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?p=4472#4472

I used to have the same problem with Video Studio 7..... I was able to make nice SVCD's in one go, say around 3 to 4 projects, (I didn't have a DVD burner back then), but then for no obvious reason I used to get pixelated pictures......solution was to uninstall the software, reset the PC, and reinstall it againg, then it was ok!!!!

I tried everything and it is better but I don't know why anymore. But now I am missing many fonts. Hm.......
But at least I have a nice DVD now! Thank you so much to "all" for helping me. I am sure the next problem is around the corner!
