I have consistently had problems when making video files using VS9 from mpeg2 files that were edited with VS8. The workaround is to turn off Smart Render in VS9 but the situation is annoying and time consuming. It is not clear if the problem arises from editing or from inserting complex transitions. Therefore, if I were you, and this were my first project, I would begin using VS9 immediately and recreate the project from the captured video files.

Trevor,
No, I am referring to actual video file corruption, including stalling, stuttering, freezing, blockyness, etc. Whenever I open a VS8 project from my archive in VS9 and create a video file using Smart Render, I get at least one of these symptoms.
The OOS problem is yet another VS8 problem. Some users have reported they have no OOS problems now, but we all heard that story most of last year. The problem was hugely exacerbated by Ulead's update release policy of changing the content of the update file without changing its name: we all had different versions of the burning engine, depending on the date we downloaded the update...
I recommend never using VS8.
