Hello. I am a newbie here and I am desperate for help. About 2 months ago I purchased ulead videostudio 9 after having used the trial demo. I uninstalled the trial and loaded my full program. No problems whatsoever. On Friday last week I purchased an LG dvd dual layer burner as I have a camcorder that burns to DVD using the VRO format using dvd-ram mini disks and the LG can read -ram disks (and Ulead can read VRO files perfectly). Well I installed the Burner and put in a dvd-ram disk and I could all the files on the dvd-ram disk except the vro files. I opened ulead video studio and this could not pick up the vro files either. So I installed the LG update that came on the disk for the burner and this installed an update. I opened the dvd-ram disk and there were my vro files. So then I tried to open videostudio and it now wont open. I comes up with an error Ulead VideoStudio has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
AppName: vstudio.exe AppVer: 9.0.0.0 ModName: mfc42.dll
ModVer: 6.2.4131.0 Offset: 0005c2bd. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? I did a system restore back to the previous week and have even re-installed windows xp professional, to no avail. I have ulead video studio 6 which I installed today and it is working fine. I just really need version 9 back as its a great program. My DVD Burner is compatible with Ulead products. I have also tried the following steps on the link http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=5992 to no avial. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you
Sharon

I have an LG 16x dual layer burner which works perfectly well with all my programs, including VS 9.
I know you say you re-loaded Windows XP, and to me this implies you did a complete re-format of your hard drive and a complete re-load of all your programs, including VS 9. But I could be wrong.
And if I am, you did not mention re-installing (or repairing) VS 9. I know, I know ... it is the usual suggestion Ulead support seems to trot out for everything. But it sometimes works. Example: yesterday, for the very first time since I installed it 6 months ago, I had a problem with VS 9 (inserting video which previously inserted just fine in other projects). VS 9 consistently hung and I had to close it through Task Manager. Now the only difference in the computer set-up was that I had just loaded Pinnacle's Liquid Edition 6.1, which I have only just acquired. Interestingly, Adobe Premiere Elements, which was also already on the computer, would not even get through the opening stage before hanging. My first thought was to uninstall Liquid Edition, but I first tried a repair of VS 9 (Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > Change/Remove -- though this only works when you have the disc version of VS 9. Otherwise, you just do a complete re-load.) And it worked. VS9 now works again with no problem. Did the same with Premiere Elements, and it also works again! So it can sometimes be a useful approach when you have loaded something new on one part of your computer which changes the configuration used by another program or which might conflict with its original settings... It stands to reason that the original other program might also need to be adjusted/repaired/reinstalled to ensure it will work with the new configuration it finds on the computer...
EDIT: Sorry -- I jumped in before checking out the topic which you said you had already tried. I now see that this was a complete uninstall/reinstall of VS9. So you will have to ignore all of the above since this Board no longer gives us the alternative of deleting a message we originated!! (I see we have now also lost the embarrassed emoticon which I would otherise have used here!!!! It is still there, but no longer the one with the BIG red cheeks which flashed on and off...)

Hello. Thank you Ken so much for replying. I am so happy!!! I finally got it to work!!! As I mentioned I am very new to all of this, but hopefully this will help others out with the same problem as mine. What I did was follow this post again for the 2nd time. http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic.php?t=5992 you will notice though at the beginning of the post it mentions to delete the following files1) Clean up C:\Windows\temp directory. Clean up all files in C:\Documents and
Settings\[UserName]\Local Settings\Temp folder. Uninstall VideoStudio 9 from
control panel Add/Remove programs.
Delete following folders
=>C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead
VideoStudio
=>C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SmartSound Software Inc
=>C:\Documents and Settings\[Username]\My Documents\Ulead VideoStudio
=>C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ulead Systems\ .
Alot of these files I could not find, so I referred to step 2 which reads
"Proceed to step 2, even if you can't complete step 1."
Then half way though that it mentions to turn on the "Show hidden
files and folders." in folder option in OS.
Well this time when I followed the post I turned on the "Show hidden
files and folders." in folder option in OS right from the beginning even before I started deleting any files and I was then able to find all the files I could not find origionally in step 1. I then did a search for the files Ulead32.ini and I delted these files. I also deleted Microsoft windows updater 3 and all the windows updates for the last week that have been installed (I have windows XP pro service pack 2).
I then re-installed vs9 and it now works perfectly. I do hope this can help others that are like me..."Technically Challenged".
Thank you
Sharon
