Release of Ulead Video Studio 10

Post by mohanram »

I am planning to buy Ulead Video Studio. I was wondering if the v10 was impending release any time soon? If so should I wait until then? Any ideas when Ulead Video Studio v10 will be released? What is the typical release time frame of Ulead? I see Pinnacle Studio has released v10. Does this imply that Ulead is also expected to release their latest suite?

Thanks

Others will have their opinions, but I don't think there is any intention of releasing a new edition of Video Studio any time soon. VS 9 was only released 6 months ago, and despite gripes by some users, has proved so far to be a great improvement on VS 8. VS 8, IIRC, was also released about a year before VS 9, and VS 7 a year or so before that. So I am guessing that the earliest we can expect a new release of VS would be around April next year. There is a further complication in that Ulead was recently taken over by another company, and I don't think that any of us here have any real idea of what that new company's plans might be. The fact that Pinnacle has now released version 10 has little or no relevance...

You could very well be right Ken but it's interesting (albeit admittedly futile) to speculate on the possibilities. When acquisitions are involved it seems to me that all bets are off. Avid's acquisition of Pinnacle was directly responsible for the unanticipated release of Pinnacle Studio 10 and Sonic's acquisition of Roxio brought us EMC 7.5 (and now EMC 8.0) both in record time. Add to that the fact that all of these companies (Ulead v. Pinnacle, Nero v. Roxio, etc..) have been engaged in "version wars" for many years and who knows what might happen. I'm sure Intervideo has been busy making plans to generate some quick R-O-I from the Ulead acquisition and what better way than to release a new version of VideoStudio. I see that Intervideo's WinDVD Creator 2.0 and Ulead's VS9 are now being sold at a discount which might be a telling sign. Toss in some whistles and bells from WinDVD Creator 2.0 along with a few new tricks from the Ulead/Intervideo engineers and Voila... VS10. Well, only time will tell

But to mohanram's question, I see no reason to put off a purchase of VS9. When the time comes, Uleads's upgrade pricing has always been competitive and new software versions are (at least for a time) an unknown entity. If and when VS10 is released there is sure to be some design input from Intervideo's engineering team. This alone makes a good case for allowing the dust to settle before diving into a "new improved" version.

You bet, I would use 29 days and 23 hours before making a decision.
I just hope the TBYB versions remain complete and that we could still try out everything.

Especially that I happen to have WinDVD Cretaor 2., and it's a real toy vs Visual Studio.
Ok you can make a DVD in twenty minutes, then you want to improve on it and find out it doesn't have this, do that or handle this.
All in all if there is a demo or a trial of WinDVD I wonder would would buy it?

Maybe we can get a mix of Ulead's features and flexibility with Intervideo's almost bug-free products.

This being said, like Ken I don't gamble on an early release either...
