Continuing problems with audio/video synch

Hi Trevor,
When you Re-installed video studio, after un-installing did you delete other files remaining on your hard drive.

The effect is to do a ‘CLEAN’ install.
I'm not clear which "other files" I could have or should have deleted. I have 2 physical drives. The first is partitioned into operating system/program files and data. I uninstalled UVS8 via control panel and then looked at the registry for Ulead entries which I also deleted.

The second drive - 160 Gb holds video files in various folders depending on content. I didn't remove any of those but I do have in excess of 100Gb free. Are you looking for me to have enough space or to remove conflicting files.

Bad news and good news

The bad news first . . .

Over the weekend I performed a clean instal of UVS8 and recaptured, redited and rendered my test piece. At this stage I decided to take things one step at a time and did not instal any update patches.

At the capture and edit stages the sound was in synch at my usual check points. After rendering there was noticeable OOS at the 44 minute mark. The rendered file would not even play with Windows Media Player. It started being jerky but the little bits of sound and video that did play got shorter and shorter until after about 30 seconds it ground to a halt. By moving the toggle to a different point in the clip it would start playing again and then quickly come to a halt.

So pretty useless. I had planned to instal the patches one at a time and try various experiments - again - with capturing using DV Type 2 etc. I even tried an old remedy from earlier this year of "saving trimmed video" that worked for one person but it made no difference.

Now the good news . . .

Instead I was sidetracked to look at TMPGENC. I took the UVS-edited file and ran it through tmpgenc. This gave two "MPEG" files - 1 for audio and 1 for video - but apparently no way to create a DVD with the software I had, until I also discoved TMPGENC DVD Author Pro. I ran the mpeg files through that and hey presto a DVD that is in synch. At long last.

So I'll continue to use UVS for the edit stage but not the render or DVD creation stage. Now I'll have to try something longer to see if synch is retained after a couple of hours or so.

Thanks for all the suggestions to help me solve the problem - particularly to Trevor Andrew. I know there's probably an answer regarding UVS problems but as long as I can get on with creating DVDs that will have to remain unfound.
