Problems starting program

Post by drummer07 »

I am using ulead videostudio 9 and my system specs are windows xp home sp2, amd 64 3000+, gig of ram, 1024 by 768 resolution, at x700 pro video card. Everytime i try to run the program it gets an error and closes. It says it has encountered a problem and needs to close, and then i send an error report. Please help.

I had the exact same problem a few weeks ago, I did find that starting a new account on the computer solved it for me, that may or may not help you though. I also discovered that having AIM (Aol Instant Messenger) on my computer caused it to crash on startup for reasons that I still don't know, If you are running this program on your computer, even if it is not on that specific account that you are editing on (assuming you have more than one) but on the computer anywhere, try getting rid of that and see where you stand.

Has it ever run? Have you tried to repair/re-install?

If it was running before and now doesnt, what has changed on your computer since you were last able to run it. Have you added anything new, software/hardware. Installed new codecs. Uninstalled anything?
Have you had any mains power failures causing the computer to shut down unexpectadly?

no, no, no and no, i think that windows xp just SUCKS. I have had nothing but problems since i upgraded my cpu (64 bit amd athlon 3000+ on winxp home sp2), motherboard, ram, video card, psu, and other things. Other video problems also have errors, my windows media player will not play any media, IT SUCKS.

The problem appears to be your windows installation.
Make sure you are logged on as an administrator then from the start button select run

now type SFC /scannow
and press your Enter key.

This will run the system file checker and look for any corrupted Windows Installation files and make the necessary corrections. You should also have your Windows XP installation disk in your Disk Drive when you run this facility.

Do you have any other video playing software such as Power DVD.
If so is that working? I am beginning to suspect it may be your video card/drivers.

Have you checked your Windows XP error messages
Right Click "My Computer"
Manage
Expand "Event Viewer" (by clicking the + symbol)
now look at the the entries "Application" and also "System".
Double click anything with a red circle containing a white x
Then click the link
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
(Which will also pass some variables) to get an explanation of the error and suggested cure.

tried the errors, it says Explanation
The indicated program stopped unexpectedly. The message contains details on which program and module stopped. A matching event with Event ID 1001 might also appear in the event log. This matching event displays information about the specific error that occurred.

Did you click the link?
As per previous... have you any other software such as Power DVD
Nero Showtime etc. If so do these programs work.

If not... I suspect a problem with your video card driver and so you would need to click
My Computer
Manage
Device Manager
Expand Display Adapters by clicking the +
Click your display adapter then right click
Update Driver.

You may also need to search the manufacturers website to see if there is an updated driver available.

just to keep the topic going, I mentioned that I had fixed my problem earlier, well I waws WRONG! I just went in for another editing sessin, and guess what popped up on startup... yes the dreaded "has encountered an error and needs to close" I editied this morning just fine, whats wrong with this software, pinnacle was no bettter, It looks like I need to spend $1000 + to get an editing software that works properly. very frustrated. If Ulead reads this, I hope they are working day and night for a patch for this problem, it seems to be happening to more than just me.

OK, Lets check your computer for any conflicts.
Start off by creating a new desktop shortcut as follows
new shortcut target =
C:\WINDOWS\pchealth\helpctr\binaries\msconfig.exe

(you will need this because in safe mode you cannot always see the "Run" option from the start buton)

Now look at this website for an explanation of using msconfig
http://netsquirrel.com/msconfig/

Briefly, you disable certain startup programs. Restart your computer and check to see if the problem still exists or is rectified.

If I use this option I use the 50%/50% method of disabling half the stuff and keeping the other half 'in play'

If the fault is in the first 50% I then disable half of those and keep the other half in play thereby narrowing down the culprit.

Let me know how you get on.
