Just getting the hang of MS8 Pro.
A small point - is there any way of setting the thumbnail display mode so that video and image clips display as thumbnails and audio clips as a list. As far as I can see MS8 assumes "one size fits all". Thumbnails of a couple of speakers for audio clips seems a bit pointless if not gimmicky.

I'm presuming you're talking about the Production Library and Project Tray since on the timeline audio clips are shown as either the filename or a waveform.
In the Production Library/Project Tray toolbar the second icon from the left is the "thumbnail display mode" menu. Here you can set the mode to thumbnail (default), discription or list.
Thumbnail shows images and video files as a small icon of either the image or the first frame in the video.
Discription also shows the thumbnail but in addition it shows mark-in/out, creation date, size, path and a comment box.
List removes the thumbnail and shows a text list of file info for all filetypes.
Audio files in discription and thumbnail get a default icon, which as far as I know cannot be changed, in addtion to the data and comment box in the discription mode. List just gives the file info.
You may consider the audio thumbnail stylistically challenged, but in the absense of an embedded graphic in the audio file.....

Thanks Terry for your reply.
Perhaps I did not make myself clear. I understand the "thumbnail display mode" menu, but what I would like to do is set video clips and images to display as thumbnail images and the audio clips to display as a list - in other words to have individual display controls for each.
At present as far as I can see, if I set the preferences to "thumbnail", then video clips, images and audio are all set to thumbnail. Similarly if I set it to list all are set to list, which is what I meant by "one size fits all".
It is just that I find video and image clips easier to pick when displayed as images and audio clips easier as a list (and you fit more on the screen too).
As for the audio thumbnail, tastes do differ from individual to individual, from culture to culture, and from country to country. and there is no "correct" taste (except,of course, mine!!!) But I do consider the thumbnail an unnecesary waste of valuable screen space.
