Menu text is fuzzy when played back on TV

Post by tws »

When I add text to a menu and then play the DVD back on the TV the menu text is always fuzzy. I have tried different fonts and colors for the menu text but still can't get the text to sharp. I'm new to DVD authoring so I'm wondering what I'm doing wrong.

Thanks!

What size?

What size fonts are you using? Have you tried larger fonts? Also, you could "untick" the "reduce flicker" to see if that helps, but by doing so might cause some jitter in some of your menus and/or stills...

Also the type of font you use is important.

Are you using a serif or sans serif font?

I was using Monotype Corsiva font, size 40. I cut the size down to 20 and that made the text display a little better. Hopefully the fuzziness has to do more with the TV I am playing it back on. anyone have any basic design rules I need to follow when adding text to menus (Best fonts, sizes, colors etc) that display better during playback on a TV.

Still or Motion Menus?

Are you using Still or Motion menus? I noticed sometimes that motion menus do tend to make the text fuzzy...

I'm using still menus. I haven't tried any motion menus yet.
