Auto Music has no sound

Post by joeybert »

Auto Music worked fine in the trial version but no sound will play after I installed the purchased version. The song titles show up in the Music list. They can be added to the Timeline, trimmed, and scroll like they did in the trial version but just as if they were stuck on mute. All my other imported sounds and videos play normally.

On some of the songs when I hit the "Play Selected Music" button I get a single click sound.

I did the install and update of VS9 and SmartSound Quicktracks 3.0.2.7 as instructed several times. In the Quicktracks window in VS9 the Full Spectrum 22k library is listed and says the selections have been copied to drive.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I fixed the problem. On the SmartSound tech site they say the problem is with QuickTime7 and to use their fix. Since I had already tried that to no avail several times I did the following-
1. Uninstalled QuickTime7 that was previously on my computer
2.Installed the QuickTime6 from the VS9 disc
3.Re-installed the SmartSound 3.0.2.7 downloaded from http://www.smartsound.com/support/updates.html
(that was supposed to fix the QT7 problem but didn't for me)
4. Re-installed the Full Spectrum 22k.exe file found on
the VS9 disc in the SmartSound folder from Program/UVS9/

Don't know what will happen if I update to QuickTime7

I don't recall which version of QT is supplied with VS9 but 6.5.2 is still available at http://www.softwarepatch.com/internet/quicktime.html

I think that might have been the last SmartSound compatible release.

After fixing my VS9 problem I found that iTunes will not function without QT 7. After downloading it with the latest iTunes update that is included, everything still works with auto music.

Yeah, from what I understand, QT7 is tightly integrated with iTunes 6. Good to know it's compatible with SmartSound. Thanks for posting the procedure :-)

Thanks for the above! This fixed my problem w/ Smartsound and QT7.
I have an upgraded VS9 (bought online). I tried all kinds of stuff (read: wasted a lot of time) before I stumbled onto this thread.

So I did everything above... unintalled QT7, 3027... installed QT6, Full*22k from smart(dumb)download, 3027... uninstalled QT6... installed QT7.

From what I can surmise, QT6 is needed to *build* the smartsound files, but (w/ the 3027 update) one can use QT7 to *play* the files. Even w/ the 3027 update, one cannot *build* the smartsound files w/ QT7 (at least not the ones via smart(dumb)download). Bogus. Sounds like smartsound needs to come out w/ a 3028 release. Dumb engineering from my POV.

Many thanks

Just wanted to say thanks.

I recently installed VS9 and encountered the same problem as described in this thread- no sound on Auto Music and SmartSound. I followed the advice given and I now have sound.

Thank you - thank you - thank you.

VS10+ keeps asking for 22k CDs. Have tried all of these suggestions. Any other ideas?

Tommy,

I've been reading your posts about Smartsound with VS10. Let's see if we can get it all working for you. These other members have shown that it is possible.

First bring me up to speed on your situation.
1. Do you have any other versions of Ulead, (VideoStudio or MediaStudio Pro) currently installed?

2. Your version of VS10 a full box or ESD? (You might know where I'm headed).

3. What version of QuickTime Player is currently installed?

Before proceeding I'll wait for the answers to the above...:)

My solution to a related Automusic / quicktracks problem

Post by Malcolm Stewart »

This isn't quite the same problem as described above, but it's close so I thought it might be worth posting how I sorted my problem.

All optimistic like, I've just upgraded to a fast PC running Win XP and fully expected my retail version of VideoStudio 9 to recognise and provide me with the Auto Music facility. Well it did sort of, by dialling the internet and downloading short samples of what's on offer at a significant price for the full track. (No configurable free tracks whatsoever, despite what the manual indicates.)
On my retail copy of VS8 the Auto Music facility allowed me to provide "crap" music backgrounds to my copies of silent family cine films. Great! anything to remove the boredom of either total silence, or the clatter of my projector. Visiting this site suggested that this was a seriously known problem, with a variety of solutions(?). (I found 4 pages of postings with no clear solution...)

In my case, I've solved it simply by installing VS8 after VS9, and the <free> Automusic tracks from VS8 get loaded into the correct folder, and linked correctly and are then seen by VS9. So I've now got the stability and later features of VS9 with the usable auto music tracks from VS8. (On my earlier computer, I naturally installed VS9 after VS8, and the linking into VS9 didn't happen. Trying to edit in VS8 was unstable in the extreme.

(I'm using Quicktime 6.5.2 if that's important.)

Hope this helps others wanting this feature.

check back in. What I finally had to do since I had a working installation on another computer was this. I deleted the Smartsound directory structure in Applications Data and in the C Drive. I copy and pasted a working Smartsound directory structure from my other computer which had a successful Smartsound installation. I just pasted these folders into my problem installation and VS recognizes them fine. Thanks for all the advice!

I got VS11 and most of the Quick tracks have no sound at all

Post by rogeriototh »

Hi.

I was introduced to VS when it was in its version 6, it was a retail version and I got interested to upgrade to its version 9 and I bought on-line the upgrade pack. When I installed the files from the "SmartDownload" some files were corrupted then I had to ask to the customer service for the download links. The content pack with the Quicktracks, installed with two error messages regarding some files that were corrupted (actually, two music files). As it was only two files I didn't felt that I should ask for it, so I've used the software without those two files.

When I upgraded online to VS11, the problem was even worse. When it installed the Quicktracks I got many more errors. Now instead of 2 files most of the files (For both New Standard and Full Spectrum libraries) have no sound. Some files that were working at VS9 are no longer working.

I've tried to install the fixes in the SmartSound software but it didn't work.

After all that I decided to inspect the music files using Audacity and for the files that are working I could see the wave line for the music, but for the no sound files I only saw a straight line.

So, from my point of view, the problem is not related to the Quicktime or the SmartSound update, but that the files are really with no sound at all.

Is it possible to get the files again somehow?

Thanks a lot for reading all that! :)

You cannot open Smartsound files with Audacity, they are not your usual
WAV, MPEG, AIFF, AU or OGG Vorbis sound files.

Smartsound files are to sound, what UFO files are to graphics - i.e. you need PhotoImpact to open a UFO file.

The standalone application for opening Smartsound files is SonicFire Pro.
Smartsound files are small chunks of code of varying lengths and encoded to define these chunks as being either a beginning, middle or end.
When you generate a piece of smartsound of x minutes and seconds, it grabs a number of these blocks to create something of the required length - bit like building with lego bricks.

If you are having problems with Smartsound then please check the link I provided earlier.

Thanks.

Actually I've checked that link prior to write in here. It didn't work. I've also uninstalled VS11 twice and I keep getting the error messages when it is installing the Content Pack.

Is there anything else I can check?
