Question On Time Duration

Post by at a loss »

Only have program 3 days. Need help.

Using MF 3 with ADS DVD Xpress. From Desktop, I select Ulead DVD MovieFractory 3. Select Create Video Disc. Select New Project as DVD.
Top of Window Reads "Ulead DVD Movie Factory". In "Add Media" Box,
I select "Capture Video From Video Device".

Problem 1: Now, I try to enter a time of duration to capture. I enter 90:00:00.00. I get a message saying something about 37:45:00.00 as a
example. I select the yes button and my time is changed from the 90
minutes to the 37 minutes. How can I record for the 90 minutes?

Problem 2: Having trouble after shutting down program. Have to reboot computer in order to restart program.
Thank you for your time

Analog capture is tricky, and Movie Factory may not be compatible with (or may not work very well) your capture card. I have the same issue with my Hauppauge card, although some users are able to get it to work. Most video capture cards come with special capture software especially written or customized for the hardware. (Movie Factory is very good at "capturing" video from digital video cameras.)

The DVD Express website says you can use their supplied Capture Wizard or Movie Factory for the capture step. But, even if you can't get Movie Factory to capture, you can still use it for editing & DVD authoring/burning.

are you changing the Fixed Capture duration? You can do it on an analog capturing device. it only works for Dv via firewire....

the message box that appears with "37" is a warning that you can only fit that amount of video in your hard drive or target folder. this is limited by the free space that you have on your drive.

I finally was able to pick up a HIFI VCR so I can start converting my old stereo videos to DVD. I have had the DVD Xpress and the Mf3.0SE for a while now and have only now just begun to use it. I captured an old VHS that was a little over 2 hours long. Now I'm (as I type this) going through the process of using MF3.0SE in hopes of converting the file I catured to DVD. The problem I have is that the status shows about 60% and it's been working/grinding away on this file now for almost 2 hours. Is this normal? Are there some changes to settings I should make? I've never done this before and am kind of stumbling my way through this. I hope that after this 2 hour plus effort the disc actually comes out, but if not. is there a "Video to DVD for dummies" or something that would help with the hardware and software I have?

Thanks,
Charles

Hi,
I bought a dvd for dummies. It's called a dvd recorder. Panasonic, nice unit.

Thanks MD that sure helps a lot! I wish I would have thought of that sooner;)

Actually, I would have bought a VCR to DVD recorder a while back if I hadn't already spent the money on this DVD Xpress capture device.

Capturing went OK. it only took as long as it took to play the movie on the VCR, but this converting the file I captured to DVD with MF3.0se is horrible. I must have set something wrong. I'm still sitting here waiting on it to finish. I started the conversion at 10:30 this morning and it still has not finished and it's now alost 5:00 PM. The progress indicator shows it to be currently at 71% complete. I must have done something wrong. I can't imagine that it should take this long to convert one file. Any help would be much appreciated

Hi,
If it helps, you want to capture dvd compliant video so the video doesn't need to be converted.

For NTSC this could be used as a capturing template:
FrameSize = 720x480
Aspect Ratio = 4:3
Compression @ 70% (See if you drop any frames while capturing, if not this can be increased).
Fields = Interlaced -> Upper_Field_First ((Field B)for analog capturing)).
Variable_Bit_Rate = 5000 - 6000 (I would start with 6000kbs)
Audio Settings = 48khz Stereo
Mpeg Audio @ 224kbs or Dolby Audio @ 256kbs

Then under the GEAR icon make sure "Do Not convert compliant mpeg2 files is checked "ON"" after you capture or import the video(s).

Don't edit the captured video (split/join/multi-trim) or the program will have to re-render the mpeg2 video file.

Also, you should make your "Project Properties" the same as the captured video Providing the captured video is dvd compliant.

Hope this helps,

MD
