No audio when making svcd or vcd after capturing from video

Post by rkhanso »

I have a Hauppauge PVR-350 card that came with Ulead 3SE.

I connect my video camera (analog, 8mm) into the PVR-350 with the S-VHS cable for video and to the sound card line-in for audio.

When viewing on my computer using Ulead DVD Movie Factory, I see video and hear sound.

When trying to make a VCD or SVCD (I don't have a dvd writer, yet) I get through the entire process without a hitch....until playing the CD in my DVD player or on the computer. There's video but no audio.

Settings:
  • Source is Hauppauge PVR card
Format is SVCD - High quality
I check these advanced options:
  • "Capture Audio" is checked in "capture options" when capturing from my video camera.
Capture properties shows "Video S-Video" as source and NTSC as system
    Hauppauge is the plugin
Select device control is at "None"
Finish the capture, hit "OK" and then clip off the junk at start and end of the capture. Then I edit the title, background and get to the "Preview Window" There's no sound there when playing in the preview window.

When I go to the next stop, I click the box for "Normalize audio" but it doesn't help. ("Record to disk" is already checked)

nor is there any sound on the CD after it's burned.

Remember, I can hear sound when actually "capturing" the data from the video camera into the computer.

I have updated the software the DVD Movie Factory to the latest update for the Hauppauge card.

What am i missing?

Another thing I tried - making a SVCD by importing existing video I downloaded from the Internet. This SVCD was successfully made with sound. It worked OK.

So, when capturing video I hear sound but none is heard when playing back the preview, nor on the SVCD. When using pre-existing video, Ulead MovieFactory will make the SVCD with audio and video.

The problem has to be somewhere in the capturing audio/video.

Since I can hear it when in the process of capturing, it shows that I have the audio from my camera connected to the proper "line-in" connection on my sound card (since when I check the mute box on the Line-in in the sound settings in XP, the sound is no longer heard when capturing) and I have the "capture audio" box checked in Ulead MovieFactory, the problem has to be in the software somewhere, right?

Is it likely this will never work?

When you play the captured movie on your pc, before making the svcd, can you hear the audio?
In WMP and / or Movie factory?
