Best format to use when capturing video

Post by emeldab »

Hi,

I'm a novice at video capturing/editing (using Ulead VideoStudio 8). I've read the Help but it didn't really answer the following questions:

1. I would like to capture video from my camcorder but I'm not sure which format I should select (DV, MPEG-1, DVD (MPEG-2) for capturing. Eventually I'll edit the clips and create short movies which will be burned into a DVD. I'd like a good quality DVD so should I use the DVD format?

2. I captured a video in two different formats-DV and DVD. I tried previewing them in Windows Media Player but the sound was choppy. I guess it has something to do with the audio codec. Which one do I need?

Thank you.

What hardware have you got? PC as well as camcorder. In order to edit, it's best to capture DV avi format.

I have:

P3 801 MHz, 384 RAM (SDRAM), 100 GB Disk Space, LG-GSA-4163 16X DVD±RW, DVD NVidia GeForce2 MX, Creative Audio sound, WIN XP Pro SP1, VS 8

Sony DCR-TRV27E

By the way question: I'm getting a new computer; which processor can best support demanding work such as video editing (P4, Athlon XP)?

Thanks for your help.
