V6.0.3 is the release of the codec that fixed the codec enumeration problem for me -- previous releases of the V6 codec did not show up. I did not have to make any changes using the Registry Editor for it to work with UVS 9. The He-3 codec also works for me:

I can get VS9 to recognize the 6.03 Divx codec only when there is an AVI file in the time line or when the Project Properties are set to AVI files.

In the later case, I can insert an Mpeg file into the timeline and VS9 finds the Divx codec but this is asking for trouble because I am handing VS9 an Mpeg2 HDV file and asking it to create a video file in Divx format. Thus, if VS9 actually carries out this complex double transcoding (Mpeg2 HDV to AVI to DIVX) without crashing, I will expect serious loss of resoultion. So here goes...

Here are the results:
After setting the Divx codec to High Def profile, Extreme Quality (3Mbps), setting the frame size to 1440x1080, I get an error: "Frame size not supported...".

I am surprised only because VS9 did not melt down.

I tried to use Virtual Dub Mpeg2 version 1.6.10 to convert Mpeg2 HDV to HD Divx. I doesn't. Instead it throws a Video Compression Error

(1) Open Mpeg2 HDV 1440x1080 file

(2) Menu: Video/Compression, where I was able to select a "Divx 6.0 codec": High Def profile @3Mbps, 1 pass, Keep Resolution.

(3) Menu File/Run Video Analysis Pass, I got a video compression error: Source image format NOT Acceptable (error -2).

Any ideas?

Will it open the file and create an uncompressed AVI file? We need to figure out if the problem is with VirtualDubMPEG2 or DivX.

Sure, DUB will convert Mpg2 HDV to AVI and preserve frame size of 1440x1080.

The divx codec id the source of the error. I can see brief flashes of the divx panel and its error box just before Dub puts up its error box.

When I open the AVI and try to convert to Divx HD, it aborts with the same error (-2).
