Thanks for all the tips!
I just wanted to post a big THANK YOU for all the tips in the sticky for the proper way to set up VS. I'm using VS8SE with a Plextor ConvertX PX-M402U unit, capturing home videos from VHS tape. Then I use VS9 to edit and create my video. I started out using the default settings and saving it as an AVI file, but the rendering times were just horrible. Have been now capturing as MPG files, and the rendering times are now in the ballpark of being the same as the length of the video file! Now, only if I could get the ConvertX unit to show up properly under VS9. I did try out some of the tips on another post here, and can now select the ConvertX driver, but the capture hardware does not show up on the list yet. Meanwhile, I'm continuing on with the current set up. VS9 has not crashed on me since increasing my hard drive cache to 4GB min and max.
