New to Video 9, et al.

Post by gfinio »

I am so glad this forum exists. Trying to get tech support is impossible. Thank you in advance for helping a video rookie. I'm just trying to transfer my old VHS videos to DVD and it's quite an undertaking.

Question 1: I have a capture device called Pinnacle Studio Moviebox USB and Video Studio 9 recognizes it, but can't capture from it. Is this a compatibility issue? I thought VS9 was compatible with Pinnacle Systems.

Question 2: I see a lot of reference to theme templates but don't see them in the program. Where are they? I also purchased the DVD Menu Template Pack, but can't see them either after the installation. Is there a step like having to manually place these files somewhere? Where can more templates be found?

Question 3: Do I also need Movie Factory 4 in addition to my VS9?

THANKS HEEPS!

Q1 - If you haven't done so, you might need to install the Pinnacle software & drivers. If all else fails, just use the capture software that came with the capture device. Capture devices and their drivers don't seem to be as standardized as more common computer peripherals like printers. :?

Did the capture device come with Pinnacle Studio? Isn't this really similar to Video Studio?

Q3 - You don't need Movie Factory to make DVDs. But, I think Movie Factory has more DVD options & flexibility. I know DVD Workshop is a more powerful DVD authoring tool than MF or VS. It's really too bad that Ulead's website doesn't have side-by-side comparisons of these various products... Especailly since they suggest that most of their products can "do it all".

BTW - If you own Video Studio, you can run the Special Upgrade version of DVD Workshop, which is "only" $150.

Regarding DVD Workshop2 ( I love it) There is a tutorial DVD being offered on Ebay for 14 dollars. Fantastic! Got me using the program almost immediately. ( and trust me thats saying a lot :) ) It was the best 14 bucks I ever spent. Not counting the veal cutlets at Sergio's that is.

Question 3: Movie factory 3 or about the same functions are included with VS9 so you need nothing else.

The only novelty you get with MF4 are repositionnable and resizable buttons in the DVD menus.

Not worth the investment. If there was the possibility to have more than one level of menus then that would be another thing.
All the rest of MF4 (slide shows etc) are workarounds for people that have only Movie Factory and no editor. Since you have VS9 I would advise against it.

Your mileage may vary.
