File Reading Error MSP8

As I was opening up the same project I was working on last night with MSP8, I get "file opening error".
I even tried to open the auto save dvps and the same thing occurs.
Up to this point I have been very pleased with the new 8 as I had been a long time 7 user.
I would appreciate any input about this error as my deadline approaches & I can't open.

This is a problem that seems that a few have hit on occasions and, as yet, the cause appears unresolved. The beta testers have implored the development team to look at this very seriously for the first service pack.

There is a workaround that sometimes works. Open a new project with the same settings and add a colour clip or other placeholder. Save it under a new name. Insert the pear-shaped project file and delete the placeholder. Save it. I hope this works for you, but I can't guarantee it.

Thanks for your response.

I was able to finally use the auto save folder to open the next to the last save. What I found in the folder is there were some DVP files & then other saves that also had a .vepro with it.
Should this happen again, I will try your workaround.

One more question:
After working for a length of time on a project, several times a day, I get a inch by 2 inch window that comes up with just ???????
At that time I can't scrub & when I click somewhere else on the tool bar the image is the same at the time the small window comes up.
It's almost like the program is saying "I'm tired".
I then close down the program for 10 or 15 mins, however after a period of time it does it again.
I would love to know why this is occuring & what could be done.

Is there anyone that has some thoughts &/or solutions as to why I continue to get a 2 inch window that comes up with just ??????? on it?
None of the prior MSP programs have done this.
I would really appreciate some input.
Computer is always defragged, etc.

Sounds as if your CPU or RAM may be overheating. With most modern m/bs, you can check the CPU temperature. Points to look for: is the heat sink seated properly with some, but not too much, thermal paste? Is the fan working properly and free from dust? Is the air from other hot components (e.g., high performance hard drives) being extracted towards the CPU? Are your CPU settings exactly what the maker recommends (video work is already very exacting and going over the recommendations is a no-no)?
