For the most part I really love what they have done with MPS. But I wish they had gone a little farther with is the Audio Mixing Panel. What I would really like to see is the settings being Key-Framable (think Acid Pro). The app is obviously storing the settings for volume changes and pans, but once added the user can’t see where things are. For instance, I can drag a sound around in 5.1 (or stereo) and have the panning saved for playback. But if I want to go back and adjust where things are, I don’t have any feedback. The position dot just stays in the middle of the sound field icon no matter where the sound actually is being mixed to. Also, let’s have some control on that center channel, yes I can turn it down, but I can’t put a track in just the center. I use the surround sound field for music/special effects and the center for dialog. I have been using Acid for my 5.1 mixes but that’s just one more program to have to contend with. If MSP is going to go for the 5.1 audience then we’ll need the tools tweaked.
That aside, I really like where I think they are going with this product.
Audio Mixing Panel ideas for ver 8.01 :)
I have a feeling you won't see much improvement in v. 8.01. This will surely be a patch mainly for debugging, rather than product enhancement.. However, who knows for v. 8.10, in due course. I agree that there are some enhancements needed in handling audio but they have made a start on surround sound and we can hope they build on that.
