Ulead Crashes at end of Burn Attempt

Post by Ponderer »

I originally posted about questions of what type of files to use for voice overs (.wav vs .mp3). So right off the bat let me say that this project contains 3 types of sound files .mp3, .wav and .wmv formats.

Anyway, I have yet to be able to burn the project to a DVD+RW disk to see how it's coming along. I keep getting the ole "Ulead VS has encountered a problem and needs to close...." message. Details below:
This is the "Error Signature":
AppName: vstudio.exe AppVer: 7.9.9.9 ModName: u32video.dll
ModVer: 8.0.0.0 Offset: 0000eaa9

The technical info about the error is waaay to long to post here. But I was hoping someone would have some direction for me. I have loaded the 8.01 patch.

One question is about the DVD+RW format box under the advanced options in the burn menu. I have that checked but I'm not sure if I am suppose to. Just a clue for those in the know.

Anyway, any help is appreciated.

Ponderer,
I can answer the last question. I DO NOT have it format the disk. If you are burning to a RW disk, which is a good practice for evaluating your project, VS takes care of what needs to be done to the disk for it to play. I'm at work so I don't remember off the top of my head if it detects something is on the disk already it will inform you and ask if you want to over-write it. If it does just say yes assuming you realize all that was previously on the disk will be lost. I hope that simple piece of advice clears up the more complicated error stuff.

Are you burning from the project, or creating a video file first?
Then using the file to burn a dvd.

Trevor, I am burning straight from the project to disk.

Ponderer,
Never burn directly from a project in the timeline. Please read the top post and follow the first link to the Recommended Procedure for avoiding bugs in Video Studio.

jc_hunter2, Thanks for the tip. That did allow me to create an MPEG and then create an ISO file. I used DVD Shrink 3.1 to burn the ISO to disk though. I've not been impressed with UVS's burn capabilities. But maybe I'll try it again with this new process.

One issue though, when it converted the project to mpg it still caused UVS8 to crash at the very end. The file did not seem effected by this but I'm wondering what is causing this.

UVS V8 has a memory leak bug that was fixed in the UVS V8.01 patch, which might explain that crash.
