Suggestions for low light tone and color corrections?

Post by Bulldoggie »

I'm editting a DV that was taken in a restaurant without additional lighting. As expeted the, images are noisy and dark. Autoexposure doesn't provide enough contrast and doesn't address the noise, so I plan to use several filters in tandem.

So far I'm stacking Brightness and Contrast (to set black and white levels), Blur (set to 2 to remove the noise), Sharpen (set to 1 to bring back a little of the crispness lost), color balance (to correct for the color cast) and Hue/Saturation (to restore some of the lost saturation).

Are there other combinations folks recomend?

If you are using VS9, there is a denoise or despeckle (don't have VS handy to check the name) filter that might help replace the blur and sharpen combination.

I don't have VS9, but I do enough low light stuff it might be worthwhile to upgrade. Have you had any experience with the filters? Are they any good?

I do not have much experience with the filters at all, I just spend a lot of time reading here. There are a couple of other threads that the Denoise filter is mentioned in, you might search on that or filters to find more experience.

Good Luck.
