MSP8 is GREAT! But I liked the old way of using transitions.

Post by randazzo »

I'm evaluating the trial version of MSP8. And it's a terrrific program! One thing that makes me doubt.

The way that the transitions are applied gives the advantage that transitions can be used on every track. But I'm experiencing 2 minor points with the new implementation of the transitions.

1) One disadvantage is that there's less room to play with third party special effects such as Adorage (Prodad) etc.

2) When applying projects for example with lots of album transitions with MSP7. Right now I just open my "standard" project and just replace the images or clips with the new ones. Very simple and fast as lightning. In MSP8 this seems to give more hassle.

You must be joking. The 'old way' was so mind-blowing which is one reason I rarely used the program and stuck with Video Studio. I only used to bother with Media Studio if I wanted something that could not be done in Video Studio, such as moving paths.

The new interface as a 1000 times better and I quickly picked up the overlapping of clips to create a transition.

Your reaction shows you haven't given any thought about the situations I mentioned.

I was talking about changing an existent project into a new one. Like with the album transitions. And applying plugin effect software. Just give it a thought and then come back with your solution.

Now that would be constructive!

Kind regards,

Oops, sorry I misread your post. Was concentrating too much on the title.

Do you mean the effects "window" is too small. You can resize it, almost full screen if you want. I use the layout manager to create some custom layouts to quickly jump from the default and then back again.

I don't know how many times I've said in this forum (and others) that you should always finish a project in the version in which it was started and that applies to all kinds of software, except where the author specifically states it is compatible with files generated in earlier versions. Ulead have never claimed that MSP8 is 100% compatible with any earlier version. Start in MSP 7.3, finish in MSP7.3. Every effort has been made to make v. 8 as compatible as possible with earlier versions (and VS9), but it is as clear as daylight that, whereas it is easy to import the files and general layout, the way of handling effects (especially titles) is radically different, so these have to be re-done if you do try it.

Point is that I work witj Adorage. For applying their effects they make use of the old transitions track. Which isný available anymore so I cannot apply their software.

Well, let's hope they come with a quick update.

And Devil. I wasn't speaking of finishing "old" projects in the new version. Please read my post carefully. It's about how to gain speed in editing while using a "standard" project file and just changing the clips. in MSP7 this worked fine for me. In MSP8 some standardisation has become more complex. While other functions give more flexibility.

Jean-Pierre,
While I don't think there is a short term solution for your Adorage problem, I think the only way to solve your other problem, 'Standard Projects', would be to spend some time, recreating these projects in V8, and then using them in the future, much like smart compositor.

Thanks, Greg.

But how do I for example change an existing project in MSP8 with new clips while maintaining the transitions?

In MSP7 I deleted the old clips, left the transitions in place, and dragged the new clips from the library into the timeline. When I in MSP8 delete the old clips I will be removing the transitions which a want to keep in place.

Jean-Pierre,
Insert your project, select a clip, right-click, choose 'replace with' select a media type and file, and you're done!

Thanks, Greg. I know that works. But it's much more efficient, esepcially with large quantities of images, to drag this via the media library.

The new way of how the transitions are made is very difficult to 7.x, but once I was used to it, I don't want to miss it again.

But I understand the problem you describe. I can recommend two workarounds for you.

1. You set the album transition effect as default transition effect.
2. You configure your transition effect, add it into your Custom Gallery and everytime you add a video, you kindly drop your custom transition on it.

It's not the same as in 7.x but it's still comfortable.
