Does tv mpeg2 file need to be converted first to burn to dvd

Post by lemmontart »

I recently bought a Compro VideoMate DVB-T300 tuner card to watch and record digital TV on my computer. This card saves in MPEG-2 format. Accordingly to VideoStudio 7.0, the MPEG-2 file properties are as follows:

MPEG files
24 Bits, 720 x 576, 25 fps
Field Order B
(MPEG-2)
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 15000 kbps)
Audio data rate: 256 kbps
MPEG audio layer 2, 48 KHz, Stereo

I also have MovieFactory 3.0 which I am using to burn the digital tv files to DVD. Under project settings, I have ticked the box that says 'Do not convert compliant MPEG files'. I have also trimmed the beginning and end of the video and added some chapters. However, when I burn the files, MovieFactory takes over an hour to convert the video titles prior to burning.

Does anyone know if I can burn the MPEG files direct to DVD without having to convert them first. I thought that if I ticked the 'Do not convert compliant MPEG files' box then the files would not need to be converted but this does not seem to be the case?

You should not need to convert the MPEG file. However...
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 15000 kbps)
is way to high and is no doubt the reason it takes a hour. You need to lower it to 8000 or less. a Happy medium is probably 6000.

Ok, thanks for your quick response. I have had a look at the VideoMate manual and it says that you can only change the recording options for analog tv and not for digital TV.

So I guess that I can try recording analog tv, choosing a lower video bit rate, say 6000, and try burning this and hopefully these files will not then need to be converted.
