ADS Instant DVD 2.0 not supported?

Post by MikeT »

My instant DVD 2.0 came with Ulead Video Studio 7.

I just downloaded the trial of version 9 but it doesn’t detect my ADS capture device.

The ADS capwiz program works fine and I can preview video.

I checked the ADStech.com site and they don’t have anything for Video Studio 9

What’s going on?

I’m so disgusted with ADS I’m open to buying another external USB 2.0 capture device.

What works well with Video Studio 9?

All comments eagerly awaited and appreciated.

To get my footage from my camcorder into my computer I connect it with an IEEE1394 Firewire. If you don't know what one of those is, its very similar to a USB connection. Your computer may already have an IEEE1394 connection, if not you get an expansion card that fits one of the slots on your motherboard. A cable then connects the two devices in the same was as a USB cable works.

The firewire is however able to transfer data from your camcorder to your computer much faster and also your computer is able to control your camcorder, play, rewind, fast forward etc.

To get stuff from a VHS Tape recorder into my computer I use a TV Card.
Using this method you can also record TV programs and save them onto DVD, for me VHS is now obsolete, I only keep a VHS player for converting VHS into DVD.

I'd look at buying a firewire connected external device, as this will allow you to capture full frame dv-avi files.

The Instant DVD 2.0 unit captures full resolution DVD Compliant mpegs (as well as SVCD and VCD compliant mpegs).

For capturing, I prefer to use CapWiz, as it is a fairly straight forward capture software made specifically for the IDVD unit. Once you capture, you can import the captured mpegs into VS9 (or any other editing application that supports mpeg editing -- keep in mind that mpeg is a distribution format and editing should be kept to a minimum).

The strange thing is that I have VideoStudio 9, and it actually detected my Instant DVD 2.0 unit (I was suprised that it did, becuase in the past, either Ulead or ADS Tech would have to issue a new driver for new versions of VideoStudio). Perhaps it won't capture because you are dealing with the Trial version of VS9?

Either way, even though I can capture from VS9, I still prefer to use CapWiz for all my capturing from the IDVD2 device.

George

ADStech DVD + DV and UVS9

Post by Humble1 »

Let me echo GeorgeW's reply.

I had trouble with the UVS9 Trial edition. I went ahead and bought the UVS9 upgrade thinks that I could use Capwiz for capturing. UVS9 is capturing very well without running the additional program provided on the ADStech website for UVS7 and 8.

The only thing I cannot do with UVS9 that I could with UVS7SE is create a VHS tape. I now go from a DVD player to a VCR when I want to do that.
