Post by munkymaze »

i have an 'NV-GS55' Digital Camcorder. i'm using Ulead VideoStudio 8 to edit my videos but i cant seem to get it to capture my video... it comes up with an error kind of thing saying:

'Either no video capture driver is installed in this system. or no device is connected'

what can i do/should i do???

or is this a problem with PC, do i need a card thingy in computer?

It sounds like you are using usb to connect, you need to use firewire.
If you don't know if you have firewire on your pc check device manager, see here for instructions if you are unsure how to do that.
http://www.myvideoproblems.com/ProblemP ... apture.htm
see the part under The PC.
You'll also find pictures of firewire orts and cables linked from here, if that helps identifying it.

I feel you are asuming right. It's hard to tell what you may or may not need because we don't really know what you have got.

How did you connect the camcorder in the first place? My guess would be, with the supplied USB cable.

There have been numerous posts here with just this problem and suggestions as to how to go about to overcome this. It does get frustrating.

If, indeed, you connected via the USB port, you are not going to get decent video capture that way. It could be ok for streaming video but not even VCD quality, which is pretty awful. To get decent capture quality and full size, full frame rate DV capture, plus device control over your camcorder while capturing, you will need to get a firewire card fitted as well as the relevant cable.

Do you have a webcam on your system. If so disable or disconnect it, close VS8. Turn OFF you camcorder. Restart VS8, now turn ON your camcorder. Is it now detected?

no web camera

Post by munkymaze »

no, there's no webcam connected to this computer.

the computer was specifally designed for use with Cubase SL and music software, so does anyone think I should try it on another computer? maybe this system doesn't have the 'capture driver' or something?

please help? thanks

Before you try that I notice you are using Video Studio 8.
Have you tried downloading the 30 day trial version of Video Studio 9 to see if it works with the latest version?

In my first post I linked to two pages whioch had lots of suggestions to try, one of which is to test all the equipment used. Perhaps re-visit the pages and come back with the answers to the questions if you haven't got it working after trying them all.
Windows supplies the driver for firewire, and you can see if it's installed by following the links I gave in my first post.

For some articles describing Firewire vs USB please click the following links.

http://www.canadiancontent.net/tech/com ... -firewire/
http://www.barefeats.com/usb2.html
http://www.3dsolutions.co.uk/infoUSB2_Firewire.htm
http://www.directron.com/firewirevsusb.html
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,4149,844061,00.asp

If those aren't enough then put firewire vs usb into a search engine like Google.

I just bought a new FireWire cable from eBay, but STILL NO LUCK!! it's really annoying, I've got about 4 tapes I want to edit, but I can't because the computer won't find the camera. It's still saying "no device detected" same old message in VS8!!

I see you live in London and so there must be a branch of PC World somewhere nearby. They sell something in a blue coloured box called a "Video Editing Kit" and it costs about ¢G15.

This kit contains a firewire card to plug into your motherboard, a firewire cable and a CD. You can dump the CD you don't need it.

Although you can buy the firewire cable and the firewire card separately it would cost more than buying the kit.
