Pinnacle studio to Ulead

Post by kobejim »

I currently am using pinnacle studio.. I downloaded the dEmo of version 9.. very cool but I miss the sports and holiday transitions that currently get with pinnacle.. can someone tell me if there are holiday and sports and other specialty transisitons are available for Video Studio 9.. if so I just may change.. seems like a lot more things that can be done out of the box than pinacle.. thanks

If you are talking about the transitions between scenes, there are some new Mask transitions with VS9 that are sports and holicay related. You have to look at them to verify, but in the "Mask C" transitions there are ball transitions, and hearts and snowflakes. They are new to VS9, and I do not know what the comparison would be in Pinnacle. But that is the only thing I can think of that are sport/holiday related transitions between video clips.

Hope that helps.

I am at work at the moment - less busy period on a night shift.
My internet access does not let me onto the ulead website due to a firewall. The BorisFX is one of the "Third Party" or "Partner" products that is on the ulead website. You have to navigate to the Video Studio page and you should find a link there to partner or third party products.

Amongst those you will find BorisFX. You purchase it from the online ulead store. It definately works - I have a copy and think its well worth it.

The BorisFX plug in also works with Media Studio Pro, should you ever decide to go that one step further.

By the way.... if you realy like the hollywoodFX in Pinnacle then take a look at the more expensive Media Studio Pro. For this one there is also an optional Hollywood FX plug in so you get the best of everything.
There is a 30 day free trial of MSP8 available on the ulead website

Sorry if I have misled you in any way but...
You need Hollywood FX Gold 4.5. The later versions do not work.
If you do have a copy of FX Gold 4.5 then there is a plug in
This guide provides a quick reference for using Hollywood FX in many additional
host editing applications. To use Hollywood FX in any of these additional hosts, you
must first install the Additional Host Plugins from your CD-ROM, or download the
Additional Host Plugins installer (hfx45plugins.exe) from the Pinnacle Online
website.
For the plug in to work with Media Studio 8 I found that I had to manualy copy and paste the plug in after installing Hollywood FX.

Copy Hfx4GLD.vfx
from C:\Program Files\Pinnacle\Hollywood FX GOLD\Host Plugins\MStudio

To C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\Ulead MediaStudio Pro 8.0\Vfx_plug

I haven't counted them but there must be some 200 or more transitions in the Hollywood FX and I've tried a few out with very pleasing results.

Thanks

I do have the newest Hollywood fx .. I did try the media studio.
I must a true video rookie because that software was way over my head.. I think I would need some college classes to figure it out..
For now I think I may stick with videostudio or go back to pinnacle..
But I do appreciate your help.. It I get brave and have some time to kill I may open media back up and see if I can at least insert a couple images and alpply a transition or two.. Thanks again

Jim,
If your using the 30 day trial, heres a very quick brief and simple "how to"
(before your trial runs out)

1. Open Media Studio (Video Editor).
2. Select one of the preset settings such as AVI, DV PAL (25 fps)
3. For this first time, only use the track named "Video 1". Forget the rest, you can use them later when you have the hang of it.
4. Look at the top right of the screen and you will see a window named
"Production library" now expand (click the + symbol) next to "Video"
here you will see some example clips.
5. Drag one of the clips over to the timeline track "video 1" and click on the track where you want to drop it.
6. Do this a second time with the next sample clip, drop it on the right of the first one.
7. Click the second one again, now you can drag it slightly over the first clip so that they overlap. You have just created a transition.
8. Now we will alter that transition to one of your choosing.
9. Again look at the top right window "Production library" and this time expand "Transition effect." Click one of the entries eg F/X
you will now see a lot of transitions you can choose from.
10. Drag the transition to where the two clips overlap and click. You have just changed the transition to your chosen one.
11. In the top centre window "Effects manager" you can now if you wish adjust that transition
12. To view your new little video look at the top left window "Preview - main timeline Instant play." Click the play button. The controls are just like those on a video recorder, play, back, forward etc.
13. To create this as a video file you now click on the menu at the top of the screen "file", "create", "Video File"

Any sound "belonging" to the video on track 1 will be on audio track 1.
The other tracks are for things like overlays, picture in picture etc.

Hope this helps.

that wasnt to bad

Thanks.. it was pretty easy ,, triing to do it without and instruction is a bit overwelming.. how come everything is so small on the timeline.. is there a way to make the time line bigger kinda like videostudio???

Think I may play with it a bit longer before I scrap it.. It a very powerful program .. prob. a bit more than I need..

Thanks

You can make the clips on the timeline larger.
Above the timeline are a number of icons. the one which is furthest right but one is "Timeline display mode".
Click this and a pop up dialog box appears. Near the bottom of the left hand column is an option to alter the size.

OK this thread is a bit old but I am aware that a number of users have previously asked if they can use HollywoodFX with VideoStudio.

This was recently brought up again in this thread:
Hollywood FX transition effects in Ulead Videostudio

I am pleased to confirm that HollywoodFX version 4.5 CAN be used with VideoStudio and I have working copies in
VideoStudio 9 / 10 & 11.

More recent versions of Hollywood FX however do NOT work with Ulead products.

You will however require the appropriate plug in which I have made available for download here:

HollywoodFX for Ulead (5KB)

I'm using Pinnacle Studio 11 Plus Ultimate along with Corel VideoStudio 11 Plus and -- so far -- everything seems to be working.

The Pinnacle program seems quite stable and while it has some strengths, I still prefer Ulead VideoStudio 11 Plus.

Of course, I like Mediastudio Pro 8 best of all.

When it comes to AVCHD, both Pinnacle Studio and Ulead VideoStudio have the ability to convert such material to HDV MPEG-2 for editing and burning to disc.
