I have been a long time PI 7 user and in early 2005, I purchased version 10. As soon as it was available, I downloaded the updated patch (the current update, 10.0.0.1 I believe) because the original build I found to have some bugs.
Now to my problem. I have been receiving this error code when, for just one example, I was simply grouping two vectors together, copying them, and pasting them in another file or in the same file: "Insufficient memory; unable to update thumbnails in layer manager 800:90:2783." I have experienced this in both 7 and 10, and the update seemed to do nothing to recitfy it. It occurs it files with relatively high res that are intended for print (letter size @ 300 or 600dpi). Usually the file has several vector objects (paths and text). At first I thought it was due to RAM in some way but I doubt it. RAM usage for PI is NOT limited, perfmon shows nearly half the memory as still available. I have set addtional temp memory in PI up to 40GB if it needs it, yet this seemed to have little effect. The only evidence I have seen leads me to believe the problem lies within the PI program. Even with no other programs running, if my session with PI is long, and I am working with a lot of vectors or doing alot of copying and pasting, its "internal program memory" if you will, or perhaps its management of the system clipboard, seems to become clogged and slow and eventualy trigger an error like this or just down right crash. Sometimes, resarting the program will fix it. Other times restarting the OS is required. And yesterday, the only way to get around the error was to copy each path or text item separately. Grouping a path with a text would trigger the above mentioned insufficient memory error.
Any thoughtful comments would be appreciated.
In closing, given I have spent the whole post discussing a problem, let me say that overall I give PI thumbs up. I have been using it heavily for years, and users of Photo Shop have been impressed with what I can do with one program. I have used it for many various print designs, biz cards, web image design, DVD authoring assets, and video editing assets. It's a cool program.
Thanks for your help on my problem.
