Possibly the file is corrupted, try opening a different UFO file to make sure the PhotoImpact program is working corectly.

Re: Ast2001 and RalphDN's experiences

I had a very similar experience, in which PI 11 would halt at one of its startup files - usually U32wmf.fio - when launching from a shortcut that was permanently pinned to the Start menu. It worked fine for a while, then the problem began occuring on almost every other attempt, as if there was a definite pattern. :?:

Anyway, I copied a new shortcut to the desktop and have never had it happen again. I hope that may be of some help to others with the same issue.

I also noticed that a lot of users have suffered the 'missing letter' anomaly; I have had to get used to holding the Shift key for certain letters and toggling Caps Lock to get the desired case - annoying, but it does work around the problem.

Speaking of text, has anyone else noticed that some of the font examples that fly out from the font dropdown menu are identical and do not represent their font? Quite a few of them are affected by this - I'm not sure if it is a bug or just an issue with my installation, but it has always been present before and after an OS re-installation. This is really annoying when trying to pick a new font without being able to preview it.

PhotoImpact 11 fails to load under Windows when not C:

Post by reinders »

I installed PhotoImpact 11 under Microsoft Vista, which I have installed from my F: drive -
(I did this because Windows XP on C: - and I wanted to migrate a step at a time)

and like others (I learned from this forum) -
I found PhotoImpact would not finish initializing.

According the screen - it stopped while loading u32Ico.fio...

The solution (other than redoing the system to have a C: drive operating system) - is as follows:

MOVE
f:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\Ulead PhotoImpact11\Fio\FIORC.dll
to
f:\Windows\System32\FIORC.dll

You *must* delete the file from the Fio directory - if you leave a copy there - it still finds it in the Fio directory it fails to loads.

If you do not put a copy in the system32 directory - you'll find PhotoImpact loads but will not open photos any more.

I hope ULead will consider fixing whatever error is in there code - this has been mentioned on this forum for past versions.
A great piece of software - a minor bug once you know how to work around it -

I hope this helps others.

Just in case anyone thought that this problem would be solved in PI 12, it isn't. I just experienced it with my upgrade. I hope this saves someone the trouble of contacting tech support, as they apparently were not aware of the solution!

This bug has been around since PI10, and is still in PI12 (just had it happen this morning).

I you use object extraction on a really large object, so that the number of pixels "painted" by the object extraction tool is large, PhotoImpact crashes completely (just disappears). The workaround is to use a smaller brush size so that fewer pixels get painted, or to extract only part of the object you eventually need to use. This is a 100% repeatable bug. Happens every time, if you paint a large enough area. If you want to reproduce, just use a large paintbrush and try selecting a really large object, so that LOTS of pixels are painted.

I get the same as Michael, except mine will not type the letter "g".

This is intermitent. If I have 2 projects going one will typ it and the other won't.
All other software on my maching works fine including this site??

Should I just Unistall/reinstall or is there a fix?

Windows XP Pro SP2
Intel 3.6 4Gb ram
PI Ver 11.0
Thanks,

Gary
