List of problems with PI 11

hi,
The component.exe file has a flaw, as it is the only file that could not find the PhotoImpact 11 program even once everything else is installed, even with reinstall, uninstall of the programs, everything else installed but there is definitely a problem with it's commands.

Also, there's a problem conflict with the program when a Windows XP SP2 does a restore and timer apparently conflicts with the Program even when it is a purchased program and opens and the closes immediately without fully opening. There needs a new patch for these two problems.

Smart Downloader can't find content can't get content url push file from content info button when pushed,
Smart Downloader in PhotoImpact 11 definitely has another 'FIND' problem...therefore the 'find' problem is located in several of the components of PhotoImpact 11 and has a 'search' problem even when the path is showing in Smart Downloader as well.

Hi, I've had the same problem with PI 11 not opening just like Ralph, and it's not Windows XP that's the problem, because the operating system was working just fine before it and it seems to be the way that PI 11 is working with Windows XP as if the some of the file commands are being redirected...I've had this happen with PI 10 too after installing PI 11.
I agree with Ralph that it is a bug in the PI..I love PhotoImpact and my PhotoImpact problems were fine before installing PI 11, even the Photo Explorer and Cool 360 were effected and wouldn't open completely as soon as PI 11 started it. I remember how the trials were effected by the timer of Windows when a restore is done and would kick out the trial versions as soon as you had to do a restore prior to the expiration of the trials, hope this is helpful in looking into it, as I love my PhotoImpact and have used it before this for ALL my graphic and multimedia presentation over Adobe.

Thanks for that tip. I told Ulead immediately about the text problem and got the usual 'uninstall' etc. which made no difference. Now at least I know how to work around the problem.

As you say, hopefully there will be a patch for this soon.

I have two problems save as does not work! and I can't access my shared documents folder from browser manager I have to use File-> Open.

My problems turned out to be windows, after installing on my desktop and it worked I reinstalled xp on my laptop and everything worked fine after that...

Well Two days later and the problems back I can't save any new images..
This is crude! I don't have time to trouble shoot why a product doesn't work on my computer when the previous version worked fine!

Time for a refund!

Hi,
It's opening fine now after computer cleanup and reinstall of full version and everything works EXCEPT, when I set the "Adobe plugins" file location in the preferances, it goes back to crashing on opening. Then I have to do a system restore and it comes back to opening properly. Please pass this along to Tech Support division, the other thing I worked out was the conflict with the hpdla (drive letter access) on my hp computers and it had to be uninstalled. I also found that Ulead PhotoImpact 11 causes a conflict with video decoders as well especially with Sonic's MyDVD Studio and Cyberlink video decoders, which also conflict with the Windows Media Player 10 on the Windows XP SP2. Windows Media Player 10 video decoders won't synchronize with Ulead video decoders well is what I'm finding out. When a program is uninstalled, it doesn't always uninstall the video decoders and they can cause hangups and application failures. But got that corrected, now the
only thing left for me to solve or 'do without' is I wish I could use my Adobe plugins in my PhotoImpact 11 and it caused my PhotoImpact10 to close upon opening when the Adobe plugins were set in it too whereas I use to be able to use my Adobe Plugins in PI 10 just fine too. now I can't. Any suggestions from your Ulead Tech Support Division or anyone here?

PhotoImpact 11 will locks up when editing a text box from a saved UFO file. This happens for files created with both PhotoImpact 10 & 11. I still have the PhotoImpact 10 on my system and have been using this program to edit my text. I want to eventually remove the earlier version of PhotoImpact, once the PhotoImpact 11 will handle editing text. This is a presistent problem that happens every time I try it. You can start a text box and edit it but if you save it as a UFO file and reopen text box to edit it, then program will lock up.

I was having the same problem E reported at beginning of forum. If I double clicked on an image to open it, the program crashed. Since I rely on that functionality almost automatically, it seemed a real bother to me. I have found a workaround. Associate the files with Iedit_.exe rather than Iedit.exe.

Iedit.exe is now a "launcher" for photoimpact rather than the actual program itself as in previous versions. Once I make that change, it works beautifully.

Bug: With the text tools (on some workspaces ?), some letters can't be used ('E' in my case). When I press 'E', i quit the edit mode.

I have almost same problem, i can´t type letters "B", "E" and "T", neither uppercase nor lower-case. sometime tools like crayon doesn´t work in mask mode.

Further to the problem typing certain letters, with me it's the lower case e, s and n that won't appear.

They won't appear at all typing normally but I've found that I can type them if I engage the caps lock and hold down the shift key, which is very odd.

Secondly, while typing "e" or "n" has no affect at all, the cursor just stays where it is, after typing "s" the progress bar at the bottom of the window indicates that something is processing, I exit text edit mode and go back to the general text mode. The "s" key in text edit mode seems to work like an alt command.

How does one "refresh my workspace"?

Well, here random crashes and crashes on startup, problems with displaying Screen Capture setup, disappearing icons in toolbar, paint tool sticking to edge of canvas, Smart Download not working. The first problem was enough for me to stop using PI currently. I am disgusted.

I'm frustrated with the Multivision filter in PI11. It worked great in 10, but is very buggy in 11.

When I go into multivision and specify "Symmetric" with 21 facets, the small preview looks correct. Then, when I hit "OK" and it updates the main picture, it only gives me 3 facets! Click undo, try again, same thing. Click undo, try to go into multivision again but the dialog box disappears! The only way to get the dialog on the screen again is to close PI and restart it.

I'm reverting back to 10 for now as it is much more stable. I hope Ulead puts out a patch soon!

1. The lasso tool will not select all the way to the edge of the image. It stops a few pixels before the edge and will not go any closer, all the way around the image. I then have to go select the edges with the rectangular select tool.

2. While using the lasso to trace around an object, with XL I could zoom in and out with my mouse roller but it does not work in 11. These differences are extremely annoying and if there is no fix I will have to go back to XL. It is too time consuming to have to use it this way.

Other than those 2 issues it seems to be great.

I only had one problem that really bugged me. The crashing upon saving and bizarre memory behaviors go away if I close unneeded processes running in the background. Those problems are not new in PI, for me anyway. I have owned every version of PI since 4.2 and PI 10 is still installed.

The Problem-

The Arrange keystrokes to move objects forward and backward in your workspace ALT+UP/down, Ctrl+alt+up/down, doesn't work. I used that option a lot and I was missing it terribly.

As I was writing this I checked PI again for the correct front and back keystrokes when I got a weird object panel which showed me that alt+num8 is forward and alt+num2 is back. When I clicked on the object again the strange object panel was gone. I have clicked and clicked, but can't duplicate the behavior. It still shows ALT+UP/down, Ctrl+alt+up/down in the object panel and that doesn't work. Very Weird.

BUT...the ctrl+alt+num8/2 and alt+num8/2 works so I am a very happy camper.

I personally feel PI 11 beats PI 10 in stability, but that is my experience with the program. Although, they are both can be a bit eccentric, at times.

So, if you can't get ALT+UP/down, Ctrl+alt+up/down to work, use ctrl+alt+num8/2 and alt+num8/2.

I found it! If you access the object panel from the toolbar the num8/2 is there, but if you right click on the object and select arrange the old ALT+UP/down, Ctrl+alt+up/down is shown. I almost never use the toolbar, but I must have tonight.
