I feel this problem is rather Windows related. I will leave it here for a day or two, to give you a chance to post it in a different thread or to start a new one. I have had many a program display this kind of error in the past, not only Ulead programs. Sometimes these crop up, sometimes not. In my case, I fixed these problems by means of a "repair" install of Win XP or a clean install of Win XP.
Since this sticky thread is dedicated to PI 11 bugs, I don't feel this post is relevant here. It would be better posted in a different thread and will be deleted here in a short while.
letters E,S,N, DO NOT WORK i.e. wont type
also the program takes 1 min 45 sec to start a bit long dont u think
it hangs when starting at Initializing u321co,fio...
then nothing for about a min
I realy should get in touch with my credit card company FOR REFUND
AS THE PROGRAM IS NOT ABLE TO DO AS IT SAYS

Thanks for your input tomthum, I'l leave it here because the inability to type certain characters is documented by other users also.
If you feel you are entitled to a refund, please contact Ulead directly.

Hi 2log. Through sheer persistence I have reduced that number to 8 files (even though the 9th that downloaded hasnt actually shown up anwyhere ... yet). Object Library - DVD Menu Library (1 files, 508kb)
Note this file appears to download (but only 399kb as stated on the download dialogue) but doesnt end up on my machine anywhere.
PI6 Web Templates (7 files, 1524kb)
Note that these files download part way, with the dialog telling me 5 files were downloaded and 2 not downloaded - none appear in the templates gallery (or any of the previous templates that apparently 'were' downloaded with smart download) and when checked again there are still 7 files to download.
FWIW, unlike others here I never had any problems with any of the smart download functions on any Ulead products I have owned (including PI from version 4). I have also found them to be relatively stable products, with the odd crash now and then, but show me software that doesnt crash!

I don't know if we should consider the "smart download" problems as a possible bug in PI 11. This problem has existed for some users on some hardware with other versions of PI also. I feel this is a ULEAD server issue and turning this thread into another discussion forum is not going to help our main objective, getting a collection of suspect behaviour of PI 11 together.
I would apreciate if we could move this subject to another thread, dealing with this particular problem already, or even starting a new thread for it.
If you agree, I'll shift it. Alternatively, 2log can shift it also.

I know dave, no need to get worked up. Just asked your opinion. If we don't keep this list compact, I fear, we are not going to get any response from Ulead.
I just don't think having another discussion forum here is going to solve anything.

I should add that ALL file types are associated via preferences
- tif and crw are OK
- bmp and jpg US
The problem is Windows automatic updates. PI 11 worked great until an update started. Within several seconds PI crashed and from then on I couldn't open from e.g. My Computer.

PI11 Screen Capture
I cannot get the Screen Capture Setup dialog to appear.
When I select Screen Capture Setup I get a dialog that reads "Loading screen capture component..." and after a couple of seconds that dialog disappears and that's it - no setup dialog ever appears.

After reading about other users with PI11 problems I am going to log all mine then repost here FYI.
I have entered into an imaging comp - so that should test out the progra,\m.
I too ecperience slow opening, iinability for the Download to download all files.
No probs with letters and the z-merge works a treat!
I currently have:-
Self-designed system (2 years old) -
Twin CPU intel 3.5 ghz on Intel m/board.
2 gigs RAM
4 x HDD - each 300 gigs
Win XP Home SP2
Norton firewall /antivirus + h/ware firewall
twin graphics card (Matrox AGP8)
I run this as a video editing system (not Ulead ) Also have ulead scrapbook, Cool 3D studio

PI 11 Problems
I, too, have a problem with the error message "PhotoImpact has encountered a problem and needs to close". This happens often and I don't believe it's related to windows updates as I have that feature turned off.
Also have the aforementioned text problems.
Sometimes when I try to access my "e" drive (CD/DVD writer) where I usually load additional images the program will close out without warning instead of pulling up the thumbnails. This goes WAY beyond frustrating when you've been working on a collage image for 3 1/2 hours and it all disappears.
Its my understanding that many of these problems were actually found by the beta testers but weren't fixed prior to the version's release. That being said I'll keep the rest of my comments to myself except to say that the last three versions have been riddled with bugs when they were released. I don't think it's fair to expect people who have spent their money on this program to wait until December or so to get a patch so they can use it.

P I 11 Crash...
Working away editing for a competition..and of course I run into the following problems:-
1) Font OK...trouble trying to locate menu item allowing me to SPLIT TEXT.
Unable to locate it anywhere.
2) Using Bezier curves to draw...would not allow me to select the freehand option.
3) Then when I wanted to change/ select the path type, I was unable to select the 3D chisel option.
4) When I went to fill with material (green glass) the program locked up.
5) I called up Task Manager and closed the program. On opening, instead of the autosave saving a cpoy of the wirking file in UFO format, it was in JPEG format, meaninkg that I was unable to make any changes. (Thanmkfully after reading this thread I now manually save evry 2 minutes as UFO file with a suffix to the file name.
6) Unable to select some fonts. Despite selecting them, text reverts back to last successfully used font.

Maybe I can help with a couple of your problems Lyric Girl.
1. the split text commands are in the tool settings panel .. but they are way down the bottom. Quite likely they are just hidden from view. Drag the bottom of the panel down to see them.
2. Just in case this meant you couldn't find the freehand option, it is in a drop down menu - click on the triangle to the right of the bezier tool on the toolbar.

I think that once it shows in the easy palette it is saved to disk, so that even if PI crashes, when you next open it you can retrieve the copy from the easy palette. RAW Conversion to 48bit
Converting a RAW file to 48bit I am unable to use any tools on it. Is this normal?
Depends on which tools you are talking about. Most only work on 24 bit RGB images. RAW format is not a format that you can use to print etc. It allows you to do basic image manipulation like whitebalance, sharpening etc., normally performed by the little processor inside your camera, on a more powerful platform. It is also virtually uncompressed and you have access to a lot more detail and color variation.
Once your basic image is to your liking in regards to color reproduction, brightness, sharpness etc. you have to convert to 24 bit format in order for other PI tools to be functional.

I have the same problem with Jake who reported on 15 October about the failure of the "Save As' function.
I just wanted to save an edited jpg file to another name so as not to overwrite the original file, but the 'Save As' function didn't respond after clicking the 'Save' button.
It's been a week since Jake first reported the problem but I couldn't find any further comment in this forum.

Save As ...
There's no problem with the 'Save As' button in the Toolbar. When you click on it the 'Save As' window will show up but the 'Save As' functionality is not working, i.e. you can't use 'Save As' to save a file in a new name.
