I have installed PI 11 and PEX 8.6. PhotoImpact works great. I have not yet been able to use PhotoExplorer. It starts up, displays the "Quick Start" dialog, with "My Pictures" as the default directory behind the dialog. Before I can do anything, PEX says that it needs to close (although it is very sorry about any inconvenience) and that's that. I have tried changing screen resolution without any change in the problem. I have an emachines t3092, with Athlon XP processor, 1gb of memory, 51gbyte of free disk space, nVidian GeForce4 MX GPU built in to the motherboard. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Rick.
PhotoExplorer 8.6 crashing at startup

PhotoExplorer won't start
I had a similar problem with PE 8.0 after installing software for a HP all in one printer/scanner/copier. The problem was with WinXp's WIA service (Windows Image Acquisition). If you have a scanner or other WIA device try using Device Manager to disable them and see if PE8 now works.
If PE8 now works you probably have a WIA problem.
I got PE8 to work normally by doing the following
1)Stop the WIA service (Control panel>Administative tools>Services>Windows Image Acquisiton>Stop)
2) Disable the scanner (Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager>Imaging device>scanner>right click>disable)
3) Start an application, which can call the scanner by using twain. (This will force the scanner to default to twain as its primary interface instead of using WIA)
5)Restart the WIA service (Control panel>Administative tools>Services>Windows Image Acquisiton>Start)
Everything should now work
You are now using your scanner via its TWAIN interface and your other digital imaging devices like a camera by their WIA interface.
