What is AVerMedia, AVerTV WDM?

Post by andyjamieson1 »

I continue to struggle with a problem where VS9 crashes on startup and have tried everything That I can find on the forum to no avail. I notice that my system log shows an error as follows

"The AVerMedia, AVerTV WDM Video Capture service failed to start due to the following error:
The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it. "

I believe this to be related to the Ulead files from VS9. As such it might be the source of the problem. Does anyone know how i can correct this system log error? I have tried clean install more than once.

Andy, I'm sure no one who knows much about Ulead VS9 or even editing in general, but I had a few thoughts and there's an old saying that even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while, so I'll throw it at ya.

When does it crash, after the initial double clicking of your desktop icon, or after the opening screen. If after opening screen are you always opening to the wizard module or editing module?

My thought was if it was opening perhaps to the capture module with the wrong settings, it crashed rather than opening to the edit module. I dunno, just a thought.

On a seperate note, just to eliminate some variables, check to see how many applications are running in the background. You can get a quick look by the right side of the task bar icons. I'd close everything I could and try VS again. (wonder if it would launch in safe mode)

here's the home page for that program
http://www.aver.com/

just some thoughts. good luck

Hi dcp

(great name by the way)

It crashes after the opening screen and on any of the three options. I will try and close down applications in start up but I,ve already done that to some extent by closing down firewalls and antivirus software with no luck. I have also been on the Aver web site but could find no obvious connection with Ulead and VS9 that could solve the error.

If at first you don't succeed...........

Hi Andy .. there sure are lots of folks here with much much more knowledge than I so, don't fear, help can't be that far away :)

did you run scandisk and defrag just to be sure you didnt end up with a corrupt file cause some part of the HD is failing?

I'm grasping at straws for ya, but hey, a quick scan can't hurt anyway.

good luck,

I presume your AVERMedia TV card comes with some software to view TV Programs. Is it working OK with that software?

as you may remember, I had the exact same problem a week ago, I am pretty sure it was AOl Insant messenger, even though I'm not on AOL. I uninstalled it, and it worked for a few minutes then it crashed. Since then I have done a checkdisc, and it did find a corrupt file, and fixed the file, and now it works for me up until now, then I started getting an error related to memory, totally un-related (I think), but I'll start another topic about that.
