Where else would you want to put it?

You can't really do that.

What you can do is create the title on a section of the timeline that is not part of the Preview range. When you render to an output file, you can also restrict the output to the Preview range, so the title would be excluded from the video file you create as well.

Are you asking how to overlay a title on a color clip?
If so drag and drop a color from your library onto the timeline. Then go to title tab, double click on the preview window to make your title.

If that's not what your looking to do, why would you want to place a title where it can't be viewed?

nope. i am looking to begin a video with a title page. no video showing just the words on the screen. i think i figured it out. i added all of the clips (accidentally) to the video overlay section of the timeline and i can put titles before the video even begins. i then went in and stretched all of the clips to make them full screen. you can't tell the difference. :)

I guess that's one way I didn't think of :) Putting a black color image/clip whatever there called on the timeline and overlaying your title would do the same...:)

I'm a Pinnacle Studio user looking for an alternative, so I'm trying out VideoStudio.

In regards to titles, I too prefer to position a title on a blank/black screen, either at the start of a project and/or to identify upcoming scenes. Looks like VideoStudio requires me to create/insert a black image, rather than give me this option in the title editor. Okay, I can do this (a simple 4:3 black image), and place my title on this image, set my timing, etc. But it appears as though I'm then unable to use this black image with a static title on it in transitions (I just want a simple "pull" transition between sceens, which I'm still have trouble finding). VideoStudio doesn't want to treat the black image w/titles as a single scene.

Is there a way to do what I want in VideoStudio?

Thanks,

Hi cz9h3d ;

You can probably accomplish what you want with VS9, however it's not straight forward. It requires some creativity. It is possible to create your own transitions, like having a transition that is composed of several transistions...
I learned how to do this with Charlie Hill's book, Getting Results with Video Studio 9...

It requires Intermediate Rendering of clips. For example place 2 clips or images on the timeline. Insert a transition between them. Then Render this same as project settings, give it name like movieA+movieB. New project, put this clip on the overlay track, between 2 other clips, that have another transition between it. Then render again...Now you have a custom made transiton, consisting of 2,3,4, or however many you want...

However what you mentioned a pull transition, there does appear to be a similar one in VS9. The push, or slide. Just prior to posting I opened VS9 to see if it could be done.
  • Place black color clip on main track, title on title track.
  • Animate title using Moving Path. There is one that comes in from left or right, then exits the opposite side. Now you can pause this, by dragging out the blue "trim handles" under the preview window. To start with they are probably together in the center.
  • Then use the push or slide transition and adjust it so that the next clip is coming in, just as the title is exiting.
Does that provide you with a method to accomplish what you're looking for?

I am a former Pinnacle user too and was looking for the same feature in VideoStudio. There is an easy workaround.

1) Create a 640x480 black gif file in Windows paint
2) Create a 10-20 second animated gif from it (Coffeecup GIF animator, etc)
3) Import the gif as a movie into VideoStudio
4) Overlay the text you want over this black movie

No need to go to all that bother, just use the colour clips that are available in video studio. They default to 3 seconds but you can change that to any length you want.
