Computer does not see Capture Device

Post by TDee »

I have Panasonic MiniDV Camcorder and when I plug it into the firewire port it is not recognized by Video studio 9 as a device. Firewire port works for a harddrive but not the camcorder. It works fine on another PC but not my new one . Thoughts on getting the device up and running?

You probably need to install a driver.

Try installing the software that came with your camera. This should install the required drivers.

No, you do not need a driver.

As long as the camcorder is in playback mode (not PC mode, that is for streaming video as a webcam using a USB connection), it should be recognized by the PC, and show up in Device Manager as a DV Camera or Imaging Device -- you should also hear a Plug-and-Play device recognition sound when the camera is turned on.

On this PC I get no indication that i've plug this camera in. I've tried playing the tape in VCR mode but nothing. I've set it for DV out as well. In addition I tried another MiniDV device and it does not recognize it either. Hmm

Which OS? Try to connect and switch on the camera before you boot up your PC.

Thanks for the help. It turns out the ASUS motherboard had a ASUS 1394b driver and when I updated it, it change to I guess a more standard Texas Instruments 1394 driver. Now it works great.

I am having the EXACT same problem.

Same camera, same error message.

Any solutions?

BTW I already have a TI 1394 driver, so it's not that.

Here's what I did with computer hooked to internet.
1. went to Start-settings-control panel-system
2. clicked on Device Manager
3. Expanded the IEEE 1394 bus controller and then right clicked on (in my case it was ASUS 1394b) controller- chose properties.
4. clicked on the driver tab then update driver. It automatically search internet for suitable driver.

As soon as that was done it recognized the port and then continued on to recognize what device was connected and downloaded the Panasonic control driver.

Hope that helps.
