dvd playback problems

Post by garb67 »

I have been copying vhs to dvd with Movie Factory 3 with some good and bad results.I have worked out how to get a perfect picture but the problem I am having is the dvd plays back great until about 1 hour or so into the movie the picture starts to jump frames then starts to lose the picture completly. If I change dvd's(including uncopied dvd's) I have the same problem straight away. But if I switch the power of on the player it fixes the problem for about 10 minutes when it happens again. The problem only seems to start when I use my own dvd's.Any help or idea's would be great. Thanks

I think you simply have a flaky DVD player. And, maybe a particularly bad batch of blank DVDs too.

Try a different player if you can get your hands on one. And, try a diferent brand of blank DVD, or maybe just a different batch.

If I understand you correctly...

You are using your stand-alone DVD player, not your computer.

It plays commercial DVDs OK.

You play a home-made DVD, and it goes bad after an hour or so.

After it's gone bad, commercial DVDs don't play 'till you power-cycle.

---------------
All DVD players have error correction. Normally, the player hides the errors. If the errors get bad enough the movie may stop or freeze. If this does happen, all of these errors should automatically be cleared-out before you load a new DVD. The player should not "remember" that it was playing a bad DVD.

Some DVD players can't play burned DVDs at all. Others will play some formats (DVD-R is the most compatible) but not others.

I'm not 100% sure about the following, but I think it's true... :?
I think all DVDs have errors, even commercial DVDs. But, burned DVDs are worse. I've had a few bad DVD-blanks... bad enough to get visable glitches or freezing. (I've had an entire spool of bad CDs.) I gather that there are more errors near the outer-edge of the DVD (near the end of the program).

Thanks for your input. You understood me correctly.I have tried on other players but they are old ones and can't read them.I'll try a different brand of disc.I've been using dvd-r at this stage as they seem to get a better picture quality.I am using a jvc player. It is hard to explain but when the picture goes bad it looks like a hundred tiny colored boxes.
