Importing Presets In PI 10

Post by LynchFactor47 »

Let me start by saying this is my 1st visit to this Web Board and am a big PhotoImpact enthusiast but that could change in a hurry...

I started with PI 6 about 4-5 years ago :D , upgraded to PI 7 about 2-3 years ago :D & just received PI 10 (full version) for Christmas...

The best thing I can say so far - thank goodness I didn't uninstall PI 7...

IF I can get all of my downloaded Presets, Shapes, Textures, etc. installed in the "redesigned" Easy Palette, I might be willing to save PI 10 from the trash can... Whoever did this to the "Easy Palette" should be shot at dawn...

Installed and WORKING is the real trick I'm looking for... Do the SMP files still work in PI 10??? "Load" has replaced "Import", I think... Everything "appears" to be there & ready to go, but I just get an error message when trying to use the presets, shapes or textures...

What's the error message?
Are those download presets from SmartDownload of PI?

The presets, shapes, textures, etc. are ones that I have downloaded over the past 5 years & had installed in my previous versions of PI...

The problem is solved now... After posting this question, I spent a few hours tinkering & trying, starting from scratch & I finally got it...

"Importing" presets of any kind into PI10 is different than the previous versions I've worked with & a more "cumbersome" task...

For now, PI10 is saved from the trash can... :D

I don't find it any different in PI10 than in any of the prior versions, they just changed the word from Import to Load. It does the same thing. However, I really dislike the left side of the Easy Palette. In all prior versions, you could have as many main categories as you wanted. Now, you have only one.. My Gallery. All of your stuff has to go under that category or you can add it to one of the 4 Ulead categories. This is very awkward. At least they didn't mess with the library side!

Mary Lou, I completely agree with your take on the "Gallery" side of the "Easy Palette", I'm glad to hear that the "Library" side has remained the same... :D

As for "Importing Presets"... Yes, they've changed the word "Import" to "Load", but the most difficult part for me to get the hang of was the new "Category" section while trying to "Load" presets...

At first, I didn't realize that there was a Category "Drop Down Box" & that you have to remember to use it with every "Load"...

If you don't remember to use the "Category" box and click "My Gallery" or whatever Category you have put your "Preset Gallery" into(I used "Text/Path Effects" to go along with the Material Gallery & Material Attributes Gallery), your "Presets" will end up in "Image Enchancements"...

I've had that happen many times. The solution, of course, is to Remove it from the EP, then Re-do! I REALLY hate that. They've even removed the right-click option on the Ulead categories.

Someone was asleep on the job when this was done, it really lessened the flexibility of the program. I like having the galleries I create at th e top of the tree but in this version... forget it. You're stuck down there with the My Gallery and that is not incluced in the sort!

I don't like to complain but I am really unhappy with this "new" EP gallery... it's a major step backwards.
