I wish to edit TV programs recorded on a Sony HDD DVD recorder. The video is put on a DVD to take to my PC.
I remove the ads with VideoRedo and use the Quickstream fix as the sync is always out especially from HDTV. I save the video as mpeg2 at 9800kbps (that’s the bitrate off the recorder)
Playing the video on the HDD from the video_ts folder is fine.
Everything is fine until I try to make a DVD. I use a PAL template at 6500kbps with the convert to disk template selected (audio and video).
Do I need to resample the bitrate first and if so what software do I use? Should I be using another format such as AVI for editing? I have checked all the posts and I am pulling my hair out after months of experimenting.
Thanks in anticipation.

I suggest you convert the bitrate from 9800 kbit/s down to, say, 6000 kbit/s first, then cut out the ads and burn without the convert template checked, if the HDD plays OK.
I've heard many complaining that synch problems exist with ripping DVDs from stand-alone recorders. I don't know the reasons, but I suspect that the formatting is not right.
Sorry not to be more helpful.

All of my sync problems were caused by corrupted MPEGs. In every case, the MPEG seemed to play OK 'till the file was re-multiplexed and/or re-coded (rendered) for the burning process. But, if you've searched the forum, then you already know that's not the only cause of this problem.
MPEGs are not meant to be edited, and I discovered that editing them with Video Studio 8 could corrupt them, causing sync problems later, when I made a DVD. (I haven't tried it with VS9.)
is to make a new DVD without editing-out the commercials. That will tell you if (as in my case) the editing process is causing the problem.
VidoeReDo actually has a good reputation for fixing corrupted MPEGs. (I haven't used it.) I've been using
Womble MPEG Video Wizard for editing MPEGs, and I haven't had any sync problems since.

Another experiment you could try...after months of experimenting.

I assume that you mean the VIDEO_TS file copied from the original disk, not one created by DVD Workshop?Playing the video on the HDD from the video_ts folder is fine...

Audio/video out of sync on DVD’s DVDWS2.232
Many Thanks.
I took your advice and I am using Womble MPEG Video Wizard.
What a difference! I have been able to play edited DVD disks on the Sony STB at the native 9800kbps CBR and 6000kbps VBR.
VideoRedo kept chopping too much data out and there was no way you can get a smooth in sync playback from DVD's.
The basic rule is the more you mess with it the harder it is to get back together! I tried ProjectX converting to Divx etc etc and the mess from that exercise proved it. Do it all in the MPEG2 format.
I highly reccommend the Womble MPEG Wizard. I have read many posts all over the place regarding the out of sync problems I had. The software is not cheap but my sanity is more important!
