OK, switching from the Advanced workspace to the Basic one offers a temporary reprieve from the ENS text tool error. As I mentioned earlier NIS automatically configured settings for this software, and so did the Microsoft anti-spyware I use. See below log file extract:
"C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\Ulead PhotoImpact 11\upiExtractImage.dll") has been granted permission to be added to your startup registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce. Microsoft AntiSpyware has determined this program to be free of known spyware.
where does this leave the problem? At least I can type for the time being :o
