IS THIS A BUG OR WHAT IN IMPACT 11

hI ALL

IS THIS A BUG when u select the text tool the
letters E,S,N, DO NOT WORK i.e. wont type
also the program takes 1 min 45 sec to start a bit long dont u think
it hangs when starting at Initializing u321co,fio...
then nothing for about a min

anyone else experience thease problems
my keyboard works fine in all other programs including impact 10

its not worth upgrading if thease are bugs and they are not addressed right away

AND I MEAN RIGHT NOW THIS WEEK :twisted:

Me Too !!!!!

I have to type my text in another program, then cut and paste it into PI11!

This is ridiculous ...... Wish I'd done the trial before just upgrading.


Smart Download! ..... has NEVER worked correctly from the first time I installed PI8 right through all the new versions!!!


Come on Ulead ..... get your act together ... photoshop is starting to look a LOT more attractive without these major bugs!

Why does Ulead not test their product before to let it loose on people? Do we even have to pay for being beta-testers? Me too, I can't use neither the text tool nor the smart download and I am really expecting a solution from Ulead in the very next future.

It's not the first time that a new release of PI appears loaded with many bugs...

Please, Ulead, give us a working final version of PI11 as soon as possible!

I too find it hard to believe that an error like this can slip through to a version which costs cash. But, whereas I love the Ulead products and have used them for years, errors like this are nothing new...

I hope we're made aware of a solution, it would be unfortunate if a version 11a is released to correct errors like this and we're supposed to pay for it ... :o)

why moderators are not helping members here? where are you
it's just hard for them to admit that ulead is scrwing us. they got away with my $89 and they said that they are not going to refund me for this peace of junk. peaple put stop charge on your payments.

I agree in part. I have seen that people are present in this forum who are answering very satisfactorily on the part of Ulead in many instances. I don't feel the need to get my money back, since there is a "work-around" for this problem, although it's really stupid and disgusting when it occurs.

But I do feel that it's not proper for the mods to pretend that this posting just isn't here, a reaction to the tune of "Yes, it is a strange problem, the current status is ..." or similar, even if the problem hasn't been solved to date (although it must be pretty high on Ulead's list of priorities because it's really stupid and embarassing for Ulead as well, I would assume)...

After contacting the Ulead support I got the following answer within 24 hours, which could be interesting to you:

"Smart download has been fixed and should actually work. Try it first with one or two components. The problem is that the server times out because it is too busy. This will be evident if you try to download everything at the same time. This is due to the trafic generated by the online activity whith the latest release, PhotoImpact 11.

You can also manually download these components from the Components Website:

http://www.ulead.com/pi/esd.htm

Getting the installer itself is recommended so you can back it up and install it from a disc later on and not use the smart download again in case you reinstall PhotoImpact.

If the text tool is still buggy after installing the additional components, please try to reinstall PhotoImpact. This is the first step in troubleshooting the software to make sure there are no corrupt program files on your pc. "


Yes, I could now install the missing files which were not transfered by SmartDonwload. BUT: The problem with the text tool is NOT solved! But meanwhile I found a work around:

Change the workbench to somewhat else than "advanced", and the text tool works fine. I found out that this error only occurs when PI11 is started with the advanced workbench. After starting it with any other workbench you can switch to "advanced" and everything is working fine.

Unfortunately I had to find this solution myself, although it would be Ulead's business...

I suppose that postings like mine are spoilsports, but I've never used the advanced workspace, I've always used the "Standard Photo" setup and I nevertheless have the text problem... but I do find that if I switch to the advanced workspace (after saving my current) the text tool works, and after I switch back to my previous profile it continues to work.

I shouldn't have said that, now we'll never get an answer from the moderators and Ulead... ;o)

I've got the same ENS problem, and came here to find a fix. Was greedy in downloading the 'smart downloads', which I think is the source of problems. Tried some of the text features, and the program initially says it can't find the file, then does. It takes a lot of fiddling for the program to adopt that style of text, but neglects the ENS letters, which makes the text tool near impossible to use. Don't think its a firewall problem, as my Norton's IS automatically configured the setting for this program OK. If P11 was digitally signed, I'm sure XP wouldn't have a problem with it either.

Don't want to be entirely negative, as I think they've done a good job tidying the layout up, and the tools are good. I'm just hoping the patch is fast coming and fixes the problem. Ive upgraded each time and don't think re-installing is an option for me without a full program :(

Text Tool Problem

After working with this problem for awhile, I've found the following work-arounds:

- You can of course type your text into a text editor and copy it via the clipboard into the tool. A drag, especially when you try to correct or alter the text. Better:
- I use the "Standard Photo" workspace, if I switch to the "Advanced" workspace the text tool seems to work, I can then switch back to my normal workspace and the tool works for the remainder of the session. Instead of terminating the program, I minimize it so that I don't have to do this often.

The problem with the "Text Tool" has already been reported to Ulead and they are currently working on a patch for the currently discovered and proven bugs. I assure you all, people from Ulead take note of your complaints with the Tech Support and are closely monitoring this forum and working with the moderators.

Smart Download should be working... It's the volume of the users who download that sometimes cause the problem. Try getting a few at a time from Smart Download. If you try to get the components all at the same time there is a very high probability it will get disconnected from the server because of the instability caused by the sheer volume of the downloads.

If it is true that Ulead is really monitoring this Forum, they really should get their act together and release a service pack fixing the worst bugs.
They should know that this forum is also slosely monitored by users. I for one was thinking of upgrading to PI11 due to some of the enhanced features of interest to videographers. But after reading this Forum, I decided not to. There seems to be far too many bugs and installation issues with PI11, and no support.
