quicktime and video studio 9 HELP!!!!!

Post by bebop »

if anyone can help, i have been trying to make a dvd with the quicktime clips i have in my comp from my camera, when i put them in the movie wizard part they play very slow a frame every 5 seconds or so, when i put them in the full edit part they play fine if you playback clip by clip but when you view playback project it moves hardley at all and burns the same way. is it because they came from a camera and not a camcorder or is there just a problem with quicktime videos
thanks for any help out there
feeling kinda :  & [/img]

Bebop, I have a camera that shoots MOV files and was also frustrated by the way VS handled them. What I ended up doing was to use another program, TMPGEnc, to convert them to MPEG1 files. Then they were very easy to work with. One of the places I used mine was to add an overlay track to another video I shot and it came out great because the MOV files were only 320x240 and looked like a dream sequence.

Just my 2 cents.

I have used TMPGEnc for a while. It is very easy to use and can convert to multiple formats. I am sure htere are better, but for as little as I need to use it the job is easy to do.

The only down side to TMPEnc is the limited time MPEG-2 is available. You have to upgrade the product to keep that capability. But since I am converting small (320x240) MOV files, I just use MPEG-1.

For what it's worth --

In Windows Explorer, I changed the names of my .MOV files by deleting that extension and typing in .MPEG.

Then the .MOV clips were easy to manipulate in VideoStudio.

First, make sure that the file extension is display in Windows Explorer, which it is not by default. To change this, select Tools -> Folder Options -> View, and uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types" in the Windows Explorer menu. Click OK to return to the folder contents. Next, select the .MOV file in question by right-clicking on it, and selecting Rename. Go to the end of the name, and replace the .MOV with .MPG.

Note that the renaming trick will only work if the QuickTime file is an MPEG container -- if it is encoded using another codec, this will cause problems.

I'm having more or less the same problem. Trying this quick fix, I renamed my .mov file to .mpg (also tried .mpeg), but after I did, VS8 will not open the file, the error message is file format mismatch.
