Normalize audio, treat mpeg audio as non dvd compliant?
I am not sure what these features do. Will they help with distorted audio. I am capturing video using Hauppauge usb2.0. The recorded mpeg file plays fine. The generated dvd sometimes has distorted audio or out of sync audio. When I playback the dvd sometimes the audio is muffled or fuzzy. It will play like that on different dvd players. The problem sometimes corrects itself if I fast forward and then play. I am new to this stuff and need help. I seemed to narrow the problem to dvd that have been edited or have added chapters. Will checking the normalize audio help in this case. Other than that, I found the software very easy to use and much faster than nero. Any help is appreciated.
The Hauppauge captures can contain dropped frames. DMF does not deal with this well. You may have success with some of the files if you do not edit. If you edit, the success rate will plummet.
Try VideoReDo to process the MPEGs first. 30 day free trial. Make sure you check the option to "Output to DVD Movie Factory" in the options page.

You also might want to try authoring to a DVD folder on your hard drive and burning a DVD as 2 separate steps.
What are your capture properties in WinTV? Are you using a stream other than Program?

What version of DMF are you using?
Did you select "Do not convert compliant..." in DMF?
What burner and player do you have and is it compatible with the media you are using?
Also, did you install all the patches as well as the Burning Engine patch?

Thanks for the great info. I folled the links and applied everthing that was suggested. At this point I believe it was all the editing I was doing. My first 5-6 movies were fine and as I started editing much more I started having the audio problems. I am using dmf 3.0. My settings in Haupauge is long play. I am copying to hard drive first, that is how I know the mpg files are fine. The dvd burner and media are updated and correct. Dmf is updated. I will start trying the "normalize audio and treat audio as non dvd compliant" functions to see if that corrects the problems. If that does not work I will just use different software to edit.
Normalize and Treat...
Normalize will just review your audio streams, and make sure the "peak" doesn't go over a certain level. So I don't think that will help your situation.
Treat mpeg audio tells DMF to convert mpeg audio to either LPCM or Dolby Digital (depending on the version of DMF you have). in other words, it is saying that mpeg audio shouldn't end up on your disc (because mpeg audio is not an NTSC standard).
