I'm trying to transfer some old 8mm footage into VS8. I don't own the hardware to capture this directly so I transferred all the footage onto the HD of a Panasonic DVD recorder, then to DVD and lastly imported the DVD into VS8. Everything appeared to work properly except there is no audio. The DVD plays fine (with audio) in a normal DVD player but there is no audio in VS8 or even if I play the disk with Windows Media Player.
Does anyone have any idea what I might be doing wrong?
TIA
No audio with imported DVD's (using VS8)

No audio when importing from DVD
I have exactly the same problem: I transferred a VHS-tape to DVD on my DVD-recorder. When I import the DVD in VS8, the sound is gone. If I play the DVD on my computer or on a DVD-player there's no problem with the sound.

I suspect you will both find that the audio in your camera and stand-alone DVD recorder is probably set for Dolby AC-3. VS8 cannot handle AC-3 without an optional plug-in which you have to buy for $29.95. Since the upgrade to VS9 -- which includes the AC-3 module -- is only $49.95, it is more than worth the extra $20 to upgrade.
