Earlier this year I had the holiday of a lifetime visiting California for just over 2 weeks. I wanted to include a few small excerpts from some films.Previous versions of Video Studio did not seem to be able to handle mixed Field Orders i.e. they all had to be either Lower/Field Order A or Upper/Field Order B, though I think you could use Field Based with either. I confess, though, that I don't know if this has continued in VS9. Certainly DVD Workshop can handle input with mixed Field Orders.
I also took several hundred still photographs with my digital camera.
Obviously the stuff from my camcorder came in as DV type 1 (AVI files) via my firewire connection and were lower field first. The bits I "borrowed" from some films came via my TV Card and came in as MPEGs and were upper field first.
My Still photographs were turned into elaborate "Ken burns effect" slide shows with Pro-Show Gold and were "Frame based" MPEGs.
I mixed and matched the footage, including some as overlays, split screens or just plain transitions from one to the other. turned out first class. Did some testing on field Order beforehand and found that the best results were to select the field order of whatever happened to be the very first clip.
