When authoring a menu with chapters, I would really like to see Ulead eliminate the need to have create a primary menu first. Being able to create a single menu screen with the thumbnails would be so much more user friendly and professional.

Think of ulead products as this.
The cheaper less frills version for casual users who just want to do their Holiday videos and the like = video Studio 9

The more expensive with far more frills including lots of video and audio timelines for users who have more proffesional needs - say like a wedding photographer who produces DVD's for his/her clients = Media Studio 8.

Nothing to stop the casual Home User paying the extra for Media Studio 8, just depends on how much you want to spend.

erock1, VS9 already has that. Unlike VS8, it has the ability to create a menu without the primary menu. That was my biggest complaint with VS8, except for that little audio out-of-sync problem. I was elated to see that capability in VS9.

I do have to agree with SJJ1805 though, VS is the consumer level product and I have looked at MS as my next step and it has many of the things like multiple audio and video tracks, but it is also something that the average consumer would have big problems with. Heck wander around the VS forume questions and you can see what adding another track would do. I am not knocking the users of VS, as I am one, but VS brings you into the video editing world, you get to choose when it is time to advance.

My 2 cents.

TubaDad,
can you please let me know the procedure to do this? I've just upgraded to VS8 from 8 and made my first DVD. At the create a disc stage I checked the create chapters option, selected my thumbnails but was required to include the dumb main menu first before my thumbnail menu. If it can be done, please, please tell me what I need to do.

TIA,
Erock

Erock1,
When you go through share to create a disc click on the "advanced settings" button. In there you can turn off the check mark for "title menu". Or you could turn off the chapter menu, but you no longer have to have both.

God bless you Bruce! I've hated having to have 2 menus. I feel FREE, free do you hear me, FREE :D :D :D

TubaDad---

With all due respect, if we look at program capabilities only, the user does not truly get to choose when to advance, the competition will do that for us.

For example, Pinnacle has just announced Version 10. Come this April, Ulead will answer with their Version 10.

We may not have to choose the next level, it will come to us through the concept of competition.

Peace

Shoalhaven, I agree that the companies decide on what is delivered based on competition, but they always seem to have a "better, more powerful" program available at a higher price, i.e. MSP. We as consumers get to pick whether we want those features or are happy with what is available for $99. I have been happy with VS for a long time now, and downloaded MSP8 for the test drive. I thought I was pretty good with VS, not a Thorsten or Trevor, but not bad. MSP actually intimidated me. I did not give it the time it deserved because of other commitments, but it did open my eyes. And kept the $399 in my pocket, well not really, the wife got it. I would still like to do multiple track video and audio with transitions, but I'm sticking with the $99 program for now.

Don't tell Ulead that I, like Eric, love the fact that I don't have to go through the two menus any longer, but I'm sticking with the $99 package, along with as many rebates as I can get on it. 8)

Glad I could help Eric, that was actually one of the first things I looked for in 9.

Bruce, again thank you! I went home last night and tried the advance features in the creat disc mode. Worked like a charm :D

I thought I would add my 2 cents regarding upgrades. Bruce, what you said regarding it's our choice, I agree 100%. I do a lot of digital still editing and use Adobe's PhotoShop Elements which is a great watered down version of PhotoShop OS. But I believe upgrades are mostly driven by profit! I believe companies create programs with most bells and whisltes already created and hold it back from the consumer in oreder to push out upgrades at $50 a pop. Granted, this might not always be the case but I think it is most of the time. I think a company selling a program that's plauged with bugs is just trying to jump on the competition bandwagon and knows they can make more money down the road with upgrades.
Again, just my 2 cents

Yes while VS9 for casual users, however there are some competitors that might start taking Ulead's customers if they don't wake up and fix their bugs, and offer some tech support.
I'm currently trying out Sony Vegas Movie Studio 6. It offers 4 video, 4 audio timelines, with Chroma Key, SWF file support, Motion Path, HDV. It doesn't offer MPEG4 though. So far it doesn't throw the fits that VS9. This at a price of $89 USD.... It appears to be a "casual user" program compared to it's Full version, which does cost more then MSP...

I think Ulead should learn to walk before they try to run! Fix all the bugs, make it more stable and have a technical help service that knows more than my fellow forum users.

Yes I'm bitter! 2 weeks down the line and the VS9 still crashes at start up. Despite trying everything from the forum and what little I've had from Ulead which seems to have stopped now after their 2 failed suggestions.

Dolby Digital multichannel

Post by mzanchi »

I would like to edit my video with multi channel capability.

For me , but i think for many of us, capability to edit a movie with original sound from front speaker, and effects or background music from rear speaker would be a great feature!!!

Dolby Digital 2.0 support for me is not important and i don't use it.
My movie fit very well on DVD5 or DVD9 :-)

I want :-) Dobly Digital 5.1 coded :-)

Thanks

True, MS8 has those features, but doesn't an upgrade mean new or better ways to edit your videos? I'm sure when VS first came out many years ago it didn't offer half of what VS9 now has.
