What programme do you use for making data dvd's?

Post by skier-hughes »

After my many problems with nero, I thought I'd try and find out who uses what and how it works for them.

If you could answer the poll, add any comments about how you find the app in use and leave a note of which app you use if you selected other. With if possible short details of your system and other software. :P Hey, I don't ask for too much

Thanks
Graham

Up to now, I've never had the need to write a DVD data disk, but I have neither Nero nor Roxio, both of which have caused me problems. Your poll should have therefore included a line "Do not write data-DVDs" to get a more complete picture.

If I had the need to write a data DVD (why should I?), my first try would be to use Ulead Disc Creator, which seems to be likely to do most of what is necessary, including a feature for just this. At least, unlike Roxio and Nero, I would be confident that it would not ##### up my video work.

I write quite a few, some for back up work, most where people have given me home made dvd's where they want to edit and change the use. A lot of my work is also in standards conversion.
I may get an ntsc dvd from a customer of say their grandchildren. They can't play it properly, or want to jazz it up, so I convert and produce a data dvd so they can take it away and edit and make their own dvd's etc.

I have other videographers who use my service. They may have made short films or the like, the film may be supplied to them on tape, they have no facility for playing this tape, so I put the avi files to dvd for them to then edit.

I've done Apple made .mov to .avi file conversions as well, again the raw avi staying on dvd for further editing.

I'll look into the ulead one. Cheers

Use the software that came with the drive

When I bought my DL DVD+RW drive, it came with IOmega HotBurn Pro. I assume this is licensed from someone, but I do not know who. The software works like a charm.

I create DVD data disks all the time. I use them for backup since a DVD+RW disk is far more reliable and has a far longer life-expectancy than does a CD-R. Also, since my new DVD player can play DivX, I create data DVDs with DivX files on them.

I have Nero and DVD Burn.Now. The DVD Burn. Now is easier to use and works perfectly every time. I have a ASUS DVD (16x and Dual) on my desktop PC, and it also works on my laptop (ASUS laptop with dual-layer DVD burner). I also use Burn. Now for audio CDs on both machines. Never had any problems.
Cheers,
Arnie.

I use Nero with two LiteOn 1693s drives. I have never had a problem with Nero, so far. I have not tried to burn any DL discs yet.

I don't like things to be simple, so I use a variety:

Making data DVDs and CDs, copying and creating music CDs - Nero
Copying DVDs - Roxio
Packet driving - Sonic DLA
DVD authoring, VR editing - Ulead

On my bad list - B'z Recorder, Cyberlink Power Producer

I've never used Nero or Roxio, however in the past just used what came with my CD Burner, which was NTI's CD Maker.

Currently I just UMF4, Disc Creator..
