I put together my video using moviemaker2.1 as Ulead kept freezing my machine. But the menu creation is so nice in Ulead 8.0, that I decided to burn the disc using it.
Everything goes smoothly, and I followed the recommended procedure - capture settings, nothing in time line, etc. The encoding appears to go fine - got up to 12% in a half hour or so, but 6 hours later, it is sitting at 35% encoded, eating paging file space, but still trying to crunch along, just not making much progress.
What gives? Why did it start out so promising but then slow to nearly a halt? It has burned short videos to disc in a test, but this is an hour worth, and it can't seem to to do it. What has gone wrong?
thanks...

It is impossible to know what the problem is with the information you have provided.
What are the properties of the video file you are attempting to burn, and what are your system specs (CPU speed and memory)? Since Windows Movie Maker doesn't output to DVD-compliant MPEG2 files, all files it creates must be converted, which reduces the quality, and can be slow.

Thanks for the reply - this is soooo frustrating!
Computer: XP, Dell p4, 2.4ghz, 769ram.
All the setting on the PC are as per the Ulead recommendations, as far as ATA settings on the hard drive, paging, etc.
The files are 6500kbps constant - I set the Ulead to match that although being non MPEG files, that may not matter. Yes, the file type from MM2.1 are WMA - is there a way to convert those prior to using Ulead?
Again, I bought Ulead8 with high hopes of using it for authoring, but it just never worked well on this PC - too many places of problems I gave up, especially when MM2.1 worked so easily. But it lacks a DVD writer, which begs an alternative question - what burner software would you recommend for MM2.1? Roxio 6.0 is not working for me...
