Footage question

Post by SharkTrager »

Hi all,

I've just got VS9 and absolutely love it. Successfully edited and burned my first movie. What a dream to work with.

However there is one small area that the manual doesn't really deal with and I want to throw out a question to other VS users.

I've uploaded my footage from camera to VS9. I've created my project and then saved it as a video file. Then I've burned it to DVD. I want to burn it again and keep the movie on my computer for a while but it's all taking up a lot of space. So can I delete the uploaded footage (files called UVS05092 etc.) but keep the rendered video file to burn again or do I have to keep everything on my computer? I don't need to do any re-editing.

Any suggestions?

Many thanks

Mark

Yes if you have a finished and rendered final video you can delete the original file providing you are really really REALLY sure you will never ever want to re-edit that same project again, if you do delete it even re-capturing will not allow you to use the existing project file (*.vsp) for further editing

If you really need to re-edit at some point, you can always transfer the video from the DVD you had originally burned back to VS.........
iMac AIO (late 2012)
Windows 7 (bootcamp)
VS Pro X3
8gb RAM
1 - 1TB HD
1 - 120 SSD
1 - 2TB External HD
Panasonic DVC-30

The only downside to that is that you can only import the audio and video, but not any menus -- you'll have to recreate those.

You can of course also burn a disc image ISO file or a video folder (Video_TS) which includes your menus and chapters, and burn as many copies as you like later.

In that case, use the DVD-Video (Fast Editable) format, as explained on page 136 of the manual. It includes the project data on the disk, at the expense of a little bit (up to 30MB) of the disk capacity.
