Hi

I'm a newbie and I'm having problems burning a movie.

I'm using Ulead Videostudio 9 and have made a movie. However when I try to burn it to DVD it says that the disc is not empty or there is no disc in the device.

The disc is brand new and I have tried a few different ones. I am using the right type of media.

I don't know what to do. Please help.

There have been umpteen post on this subject over recent months.

It appears that you have installed what is called "packet writing software" like NERO's "InCD" or another flavour of this. What happens is that these programs identify an empty CD being inserted into the drive and lock the burner in order to format that CD.

Uninstall any packet writing software and see if that fixes your problem. If it doesn't, well, we shall need a lot more detail on your systems hardware and software mix to be able to offer some assistance.

I had the same problem and I removed Nero and still was not able to burn a DVD. Is there any way around this?

Also, I am using the trial version of Video Studio, could this have any impact?

I have a MatShit au-810 DVD burner and a Sony Vaio laptop.

I think I figured out the problem.

I had the message "the disc is not empty or there isn't any disc" when I tried burning a new DVD-R. I have installed on my computer the K-Lite Codec Pack. I burned to CD-R, just to check. My burner can't burn DVD's of any sort, but can burn to CD.

This could be everybody else's problem.

buy a DVD burner. There are several icons at the bottom. One of them says settings. A screen will pop up. One side will say what your DVD/CD Player will Play and the other side will state what it can write. Mine can play CD's and DVD's, but can only burn CD's.

You may simply need to upgrade your DVD/CD Player on your computer!

It turns out my error was caused by using DVD-R disks when my burner requires DVD+R... Maybe that will help others! Christmas is saved!
