Having huge issues. . .

Post by oceanreign »

About two weeks ago this device, along with two other similar items, worked fine on my computer. I did nothing that would warrant a system change (no updates, downloads, deletions, system repairs/restore, etc) and all of the sudden the capture device does not work!

Here is what is happening: When everything is connected to the device, and then connected to the computer (I have checked and rechecked, everything is properly connected) there is only a black screen while trying to capture video. I have tried 2 different VCRs, DVD players, camcorders. I have tried a hundred different tapes and several differnt sets of RCA cables. i have installed and uninstalled and reinstalled programs. HELP.

I am currently running ULEAD VideoStudio 7 basic, and also get the same result in the Windows Movie Maker, running on WinXP Home edition and all the other system requirements that are given.

Can anybody help?

This sounds like a driver issue.
Right click on "My Computer"
Manage
Devices.

Anything showing up with a yellow circle?

No, nothing has a yellow circle. The computer thinks things are working fine, which is what is really strange to me.

What is an ADS capture device? I have tried Dazzle DVC 80 and just a plain old USB "video grabber" device and both have the same result: a black screen in the preview screen. Again, worked about 2-3 weeks ago. System restored to that point and nothing.

Is there a way to fix a driver problem or is there something else to try?

ADS as in ADS Tech, a brand of Capture devices very similar to Dazzle. I have had this problem on the ADS DVD Xpress, what I usually do is unplug the capture device, restart comp with capture device UNPLUGGED, wait until you get into your desktop, and the plug it in, and load the capture program. That may not work on your device, but its worth a try.
