Capture Audio Only
Have the DVD Movie Factory software with the DVD express hardware and want to put some of my old cassette tapes on the computer. It only wants to capture video. Can this setup be used to create audio files only? If so, can you please guide me in the right direction to do that? Thanks a bunch! PG
Windows should have a built-in audio recorder. Check your Windows help files, 'cause it's going to depend on which version of Windows your using.
I haven't actually used the Windows recorder. For many years, I've been using GoldWave ($50 USD) for audio recording & editing.
You might also try-out Audacity (FREE!!!).

Audio Only
Thanks for your reply. I do have the window sound recorder...but can't figure out how to have it capture through the DVD Express hardware. I want to move some of my old cassettes to digital. Since they are audio only, I just want to save them as mp3 or wav files. I can't figure out how to use the encoder in the hardware to put it in audo only format...it keeps putting into video mode (the video portion is blank...but it is still a video file) Thanks again...any thoughts or advice on how to do this are welcome!

Like DVDDoug said GoldWave or Audacity would be able to do this. Both will allow you to capture your audio to mp3 or wav.
First you should have a line-out on your cassette player/stereo. Connect this using a stereo 1/4" stereo line (mini-plug) to your computer sound card line-in.
(I use Audacity so I'll proceed with that).
Open Audacity, you'll see a red circle (record button) on the menu. Just mouse over each for tool tip to see.
Click Record in Audacity.
Push play on your cassette player and you should be off and running.
Then stop when your done.
Save to whatever format you desire...
Hope that helps
