Removing multiple clips

Hi Guys,
I'm back with another dopey question.

I have a video with multiple chapters. I only want to take about 3 clips out of this longer piece, save them, then put them in my other project.

For some reason whatever I try doesn't let me extract them.

I know this is a logic issue but I am not able to figure it out.

Is this video on a disc already, or in your computer? If the latter, what are its properties? What processes _have_ you tried to get at it?

Both are on the hard drive. The "Destination" project which is to receive the clips is my ongoing project. The Movie from which I am harvesting clips is also on the hard drive. I ripped it off a DVD.

What seems to work is that I cut clips from the harvest video, put them in the library and open my desitantion project and drag them into the timeline. The issue earlier was the library of clips went away when I opened the destination project, but now it seems to be staying open, so the work around is working.

Some parts of this software really are a mystery to me.
