Problem sincronizing subtitles

Post by davidaviola »

Hi,

I'm having a problem with DVD Workshop 2. I've converted a .srt subtitle file to Workshop's format using the Subtitle Workshop. The subtitles loaded just fine, and the times shown at the timetable at the bottom of the screen are perfect, but when I preview the video+the subtitles, they don't appear at the time written at the timetable.

Because of my lousy english, I would include an image to explain my problem better, but I don't know how. I hope you understood what's going on...

Subs

Subtitle Workshop doesn't create the right output format. It outputs an ANSI encoded text file and many of the attributes at the bottom of the text file are wrong.

DVD Workshop requires a UNICODE encoded text file and it's attributes must match that of the Ulead output .txt file.

Sounds like you may also have a frame rate mismatch (PAL/NTSC issue).

If you haven't got a frame rate issue then you already have the correct timings (the hard part).

I suggest you create a new subtitle track in DVD workshop with all your timings in place. Leave the text areas blank for now.

Export that as a text file (as a backup), and check that output against the output of Subtitle Workshop. You should see that they are different.

If the timings are OK you should be able to copy and paste your subtitle text either directly into DVD Workshop or into your backup .txt file (make another backup first :!: ).

Watch out for overlapping subs (highlighted in green) and if you're pasting from .txt file to .txt file make sure you don't mess with the formatting.

Hope that helps
